do i blame those papa eagles? After all it is a geopolitical zone football team!

Even the boys playing at ajegunle will beat them.

I can't but agree with you, Chris.

Despite the incentives, the guys have not been impressive at all.  Siasia's boys, who were not in any way motivated, represented us well at the AYC and the world stage.

Who's to blame? the coach or the boys men?

Which geopolitical zone?. . .I haven't gotten a chance to look at the team sheet but the few names I've seen so far are Yoruba names.
Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by Nobody: 10:45pm On Jan 30, 2007
@ Donzman,

at least all 6 geopolitical zones are represented in the team. i dont remember the national team being zoned to any particular group, at least not yet!
Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by Christino(m): 10:49pm On Jan 30, 2007
@ David

Maybe that's were the problem is coming from, trying to pick from all the states in the federation won't do no good, that's why the country itself is a mad case of chaos - no rythm, cos president has to be yoruba, vice has to be Hausa and Senate president has to be Igbo and all whatnot!

Those boys can't beat Ghana's under 12 team on a good day. No single creativity, please let's not talk about it, it makes me wanna puke. If these guys were our only hopes as in super eagles, we'll drop down to 180 in FIFA ranking within 3 months!
Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by Nobody: 10:55pm On Jan 30, 2007
When the all-conquering Eagles did us proud at USA 94, i cant remember anyone complaining that the team was a predominantly igbo team! So long as our best legs played!

In this mad age of political correctness, now we have the likes of Sanni Kaita making the national team just so that the north can be represented by force while we leave better players on the bench!

Welcome to Nigeria!
Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by Nobody: 10:56pm On Jan 30, 2007
Ahh I get it now, I thought Davidylan was saying they picked people out of just 1 geopolitical zone.

They're picking players to be representative of Nigeria instead of picking the best players possible?

Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by Christino(m): 11:34pm On Jan 30, 2007
Congo ke? aren't those even twice as woeful? With home advantage they can't but do ojoro. Nigeria may be the worst team in the tourney, but Congo is surely twice an ass.

@ David

The world knows most of our best guys are Igbo, Midfielders especially, I don't know why Sani Lulu had to include his boys by fire by thunder.

@ PDF,

Are you sure of the ages you are posting there? You mean i'm 5 years older than these grannies? I don't get it, my dad looks way younger than 70% of them and he's just 49! shocked
Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by Nobody: 11:39pm On Jan 30, 2007
I went with my junior bro. to train with a Juluis Beger feeder team, guys who were easily above 28 were talking about signing up for U-17 trials and some were suggesting trying out for U-21 since they look too old. Old men, it's people like that who ruin our football but again, how do you expect them to survive?. . .They'll use their skills when they have it.

We met a guy there who plays in Portugal's 3rd division, the guy is 38 or thereabouts but he has 22 on his football age.

The European coaches do not care too as long as you can play. When you can no longer play even if your age says 24, they'll let you go.
Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by 4Play(m): 11:41pm On Jan 30, 2007
@Christino

Be consoling yourself.U don't know u are an old man.U are suprised that there are a lot of people younger than u actually playing football

We go into these youth competitions with a win at all cost mentality. It is self defeating to go them with overaged players to ensure that we win

Our focus should be on the development of young talent.Whether we win or not should not be the issue
Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by JosBoy4Lif(m): 11:44pm On Jan 30, 2007
@ Donzman

Look at Freddie Adu, best example out. He will be playing in the u21 tourney in Canada

Are u suggesting Fred Adu is not U 21?

If he's U21, I'm in pre-school. And I'm still waiting for a glimpse of all that talent that's been hyped.
Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by kitaun(m): 8:51am On Jan 31, 2007
We keep criticizing over the age thingy baselessly, i can remember our being banned once alongside Brazil and other powerhouses over these age discrepancy brouhaha some yrs ago, now tell me if it does not happen everywhere, how old do they say Rooney and Terry are? Some will say they are slightly older than they claim likewise our own Mikel and Obafemi had their ages trimmed down a little no more than 2yrs!
Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by goldenray(m): 11:33am On Jan 31, 2007
let the age thing be.at least for now.we do not have a say in NFA's decision making last time i checked. So why dont we keep our finger crossed and hope it dosnt catch up with us?
the koko is that, lack lustre or not, we are facing the home team on saturday in the finals. we are defending our championship. but did you see their crowd support? just like the tunis in 2004 and korea in 2002. lets analize and predict:
me:1 all draw regulation time; we win on penalties
zambia beats the drowned hope scorpions blue wink

People who think that Freddy Adu,Rooney,Terry and their likes are not what they say they are do not have an idea of how things work in the West. There is no way anyone of these can hide their real ages from the public.Everything is in a national database

We are just looking for a way to excuse our rampant cheating

Yes ,but he came to the US at the age of eight, unless he lied about his age at the time, once he has been enrolled into school it will be impossible to cheat on age anymore

Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by Nobody: 3:16am On Feb 01, 2007
Even at that, how come Adu hasn't improved since age 13 or 14 when he came on the stage?. . .Even Martins who we castigate so much for faking his age has improved since he broke through for Inter, why has a 14 year old failed to improve?. . .Easy, he was not 14.
Re: African Youth Championship: Congo 2007 by JosBoy4Lif(m): 3:35am On Feb 01, 2007
Exactly, when you are older than your mates by the time they catch up to you, you don't shine.
My brother plays for u20's Canada, http://canadasoccer.com/eng/nationals/profile.asp?id=268&sub=2 and he told me Freddie is not the superstar he is cut out to be.
He said Adu was good when they were all younger, but now he is just as ordinary as any other player, mind you he does still know how to play the game.
