I grew up not watching so much TV. I only remember being told movies by their watchers. A play mate or a grown Aunty would tell me movies by word of mouth. The funniest of them all was 'Paul and Silas' where the twins said things like 'Baby kem okpo', Baby, knock me, 'Baby wuom mmiri', Baby pour water on me. And the Baby did these things to the poor twins who were dying for her.

I got limited chance to watch at a neighbour's house. This happens after school when I trek back home with My younger brother. We would hurry up to fetch water from the stream at our backyard. We would wash plates and then journey to watch a movie which we called 'film' then.

But as Children, before we are done with our duties, the nights will arrive and the next thing, our Parents are home, hence, no movie watching. So we sometimes push duties aside just to make it to our friend's door step to watch a movie. It was in his house we watched State of emergency, Nneka the pretty serpent etc.

One saturday (That time we had a functional TV) after we were done, a group of boys who meet there as well for the same purpose asked that they will come to our house to watch one too. We didn't have so many cassettes. But I slot in DIED WRETCHED featuring Eucharia Anunobi, Tony Umez et al. I loved Eucharia and Tony's use of english and tones. But these group of boys left my house disappointed. I wished I could help their case.

Then, in secondary school, I stole glances at the TV of the Priest each time my class were to perform a task in his house. It was there that I sighted Zain Africa Challenge program. It was mind blowing, educative, challenging and absolutely phenomenal. I loved the speed at which the Students answered questions. I also loved that I could answer some of the questions as well. I remember one question whose answer was 'galaxies', talking about the solar system.

And after a while, the company was acquired and the program stopped. But thanks to Cowbell for their mathematics challenge which is a good thing for high school pupils. But if Cowbell were to sponsor an entertainment program, they would raise the cash prizes. And that's why there are so much emphasis on project fame, the voice, xfactor etc. I am not against those ones but the attention is being drawn out of formal education as though it is an unrewarding venture. There is less attention given to that side. And even when a company champions one, the prizes would just be enough to buy a few pairs of shoes and bags and books for the next academic session.

So if a university student wins a car for tackling questions on Geography and maths, it is a taboo okwa ya? If a university student wins 7,000,000 in an academic competition, our ancestors will ressurrect, right?

And to think about this #bigbrothernigeria porn makes me want to throw up blood.

You play football and you could be earning 300k pounds per week....

You sing ski borobo skibo and you could be earning 5 million per show...

But after 5 years in the university, an employer will be feeling like a king paying 20k per month...

I know those who invented education can not make heaven...

My opinion is that industry focused research(research that solve society problem) should b fund much instead of brainpower strength alone or better still entrepreneurial strive that solve a problem.
