Fuel Scarcity, Oshiomhole Sold Us Out! by segoye2(m): 12:07pm On Jan 18, 2007
I read through this piece of rubbish from tribune online and all I could say to Adams is; Thank you for selling us for your filty vision of being a governor and thank you for wasting all our trust in you.

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has given reasons why the NLC did not embark on any form of protest against the Federal Government throughout 2006 or go on strike during the year.

Oshiomhole, who spoke during a get-together with labour correspondents, also commended the media for the part they played in all the struggles by the NLC.

Oshiomhole said the congress did not go on strike because the Federal Government, after its collaboration with the labour movement, “saw the futility of subjecting the Nigerian market and the Nigerian people to free market and some other key issues around which led to organising previous protests.”

According to Oshiomhole, “many people have asked why the NLC was very quiet in 2006. The year was the first time in eight years that NLC neither issued ultimatum to the Federal Government nor did it have course to go on strike.

“But the truth of the matter is that as a result of our collaboration, the Federal Government accepted the futility of subjecting the Nigerian market and the Nigerian people on what they called free market and some of those key issues around which we had organised previous protests.

“Government finally agreed that it will not subject the domestic prices of petroleum products to market forces and that subsidy is not injurious to the Nigerian economy.”

Besides, he pointed out that the government appropriated some amount of money to subsidise the prices of fuel, adding: “It (government) proceeded to appropriate some couple of billions of naira to guarantee price stability of locally consumed petroleum products.

“With that policy, there was no need for us to re-enact the annual festival arising from increases in petroleum product. I think it is important to mention this because many people have asked me why nothing happened in 2006.”

Don't you think he sold us out?
