My opinion is Jamb has just complicated issues, why not let students go to the universities of their choice and take their entrance exam. Private universities are to expensive for the average Nigerian, which automatically leaves the candidate with just one choice of a university. What if for any reason the candidate misses that university's requirements? Then it over for that year again?
Do u really have a choice in this country.... Think ham

Why force people to go to private universities in this hard times? Jamb has been bought over, for real. The private universities that used to beg people to come will now be flexing muscle for candidates. Mtchew.

No we won't take it at all Jamb has been compromised, it's not their duty of to determine the choice of an applicant so Benjamin or whoever pls let us be.

Jamb is now the biggest scam to Nigerian students, can you imagine collecting #10,000 each, from almost every graduating student to regularize their results, and give them a new jamb number. This is as they said, will enable go for service, what nonsense

This is what I keep saying about 9ja, the leaders are simply idiots and dullards and do not have the interest of Nigerians at heart. Why have 'first or second or third choice' in the first place for options students will like to consider? This is insane. When you take SAT to get into Uni/ College in the US or Canada or UCAS to get into Uni in the UK (the equivalent of JAMB), there is nothing like first choice or second choice or last choice or whatever rank they call it by JAMB, what you have is choices of schools candidates will like to consider for their test results to be sent to, so your score may not match the criteria for Harvard, but you can still get into Howard University, for instance, as long as your test scores was sent to them in the first place (based on the choices you selected). Same thing when you write GRE or GMAT to get into Graduate School for Higher Degree programmes.
Remove the first, or second or whatever adjective in front of choice and LET CANDIDATES SELECT THE CHOICES THEY WANT (upto a maximum limit ofcourse), SIMPLE! Then send their scores to those Uni and let the Uni decide who they want to have. A candidate's score may not meet up with one Public Uni, but meet up with another Public Uni.

By the way, our entire educational system needs a total overhaul, that's another topic for another day.

This a very stupid move from Jamb! Let the candidates decide for themselves!
But try to get their point. Public schools don't admit 2nd choice so why bother wasting the option on them? Unless we have people that can prove they got admitted through 2nd choice at a public university.

Another thing is that they want the new federal and all state universities to have candidates applying straight to them as 1st choice so admission is probably more guaranteed. It's not fun when 500k jambites apply to the top federal schools yearly and only about a tenth is admitted. Doesn't make sense at all.

Hope you know every state in Nigeria has at least two public universities. Jambites can afford to pick any and not just focus on the top federal universities.

Senseless explanation. JAMB needs a total overhaul. Too many scholarly idîots are managing its affairs.
Nigeria needs overhaul, the registrar likely got there by "who u know" just like most other appointments hence nothing is working

Let us be deceiving ourselves in this country. Either we choose 1 private University or 2 public, the truth is that there is no jobs out there to cater for the teeming youths.
Perhaps they will launch common entrance exams for babies entering crèche someday and it will be a big issue like this.
The government should learn how to set it's priorities right.

I think you should know how to respond to issues. This is about jamb policy not unemployment.

Personally I think what jamb is trying to do is to indirectly fill the vacant space in the polytechnic and colleges of education and reduce the admission deficit in public university. Virtually all the top skul does not admit second choice and the ones that do admit to unwanted courses

Good move by jamb

What rubbish is JAMB saying?....

Lautechgossip:
The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed why it restricted candidates from choosing two public universities during the 2017 online registration.

Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Head of Media and Information, told PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday that the choice of public universities was restricted to one but candidates can choose as many colleges of education and polytechnics as they want.

The new measure by the board means that candidates may select a public university and a private university, but not two public universities.

The new update was revealed by JAMB via its official twitter handle @JambHQ on Friday.

It reads: “candidates can select NCE as their choice up to three times I.e 1st choice, 2nd choice and 3rd choice.

“But they are not allowed to select two public universities as choices. If candidates select a public university as their degree awarding choices, they are allowed to select a private university as another choice.”

Mr. Benjamin told PREMIUM TIMES that the Board took the restrictions because candidates hardly get admissions into their second and third choice universities.

“Yes we restricted the choice to one but candidates can choose as many colleges or polytechnics,” he said.

“We discovered it was of no use choosing a university as second choice when in actual sense they can’t even accommodate their first choices,” the JAMB official said.

Candidates have however cried foul over this new information as they lamented that the board is indirectly enforcing the choice of private university on them.

The candidates also lamented due to the huge sum paid as school fees in private universities stating that they are not affordable by most Nigerian parents.

“The fees nko? Jamb go help the students pay the fees for the private universities? You can’t force somebody to attend private universities,” a Twitter user, Robinson said.

oga u seems not understand the koko of the matter!

the koko of the matter is majority of nigerians can not afford the fees of private universities! period!

if JAMB wants to make private unis as compulsory second choice, then they should standardize the fees of private unis to either tally with or slightly above that of public unis! simple!

in fact based on this dumb decision by jamb(which am sure some things don exchange hands) it simply means that jamb's new method of refusing u admission will be to simply send u an admission letter to a private university!

oh and let me assure you that at least 70% of the 2017 admission will go to private universities and 80% of that 70% will come from the south!

this new admission policy is a cleansing or depopulation method - they want to drastically reduce the population of people in public universities - let me put it in a more simpler term - THEY WANT TO MAKE SURE POOR MAN'S CHILDREN CAN NO LONGER GO TO UNIVERSITY - AND YES IT WILL BE MOSTLY POOR MAN'S CHILDREN FROM THE SOUTH!

NB: IF YOU DOUBT MY ASSERTIONS - PLS BE KIND ENOUGH TO ASK YOURSELF - HOW MANY PARENTS YOU KNOW THAT CAN AFFORD TO PAY N300 THOUSANDS PER SEMESTER FOR THEIR WARDS (N300 THOUSAND BEING THE LEAST ANY PRIVATE UNI TAKES FOR NON-SCIENCE RELATED COURSES).
