NIGERIA: A COUNTRY THAT NEVER EXISTED.

Kudos to that man known for Nigerians woes and afflictions all in the name of amalgamation. History may be tactful making my absence an agent of mockery, but experience over some decades would prove otherwise, thus, creating a pictorial sense of what never was, is not and would never be.
Nigeria, as joined and named by the Lizards(typo, I meant Lugards ) was never a nation but a United State of many Nations, each moving at her pace.
"Nigeria is not a nation. It is a mere geographical expression. The word Nigerian is merely a distinctive appellation to distinguish those who live within the boundaries of Nigeria from those who do not".
Obafemi Awolowo 1947.
An indepth look into the above quote by a foremost nationalist is loud and clear enough, telling us our fate by nature that what would never be is the country Nigeria.
Without mincing words, Nigeria as one big country operating a centralized system, policies and polity remains a failure our leaders are yet to forsake. The evil usage of this mirage as an advantage in cutting their share of the National cake by many isn't oblivion, but the youths seem to be on sleeping pills. Some of these dealers(leaders) have sworn on their lives in bringing us to nothing before declaring 'TO YOUR TENT, O ISRAEL.'
A nation, simplicita, is a common people sharing a common heritage, language, culture, religion, etc. So, if by nation state we mean " a sovereign political entity" whose territorial jurisdiction extends to persons that share ethnic, linguistic, cultural, historical traits and who identify themselves as constituting one nationality, then, the word one Nigeria is not only confusing but misleading.
In drawing a parallel for Nigeria, It is recognized that the country has over 350 ethno-cultural groupings which has been compounded by Pronounced religious differences.
If there is no hope of A TRUE FEDERALISM where each region of supposed entity manages her resources and develops herself, going our separate ways wouldn't be a bad idea. Moreover, the Igbos are yearning for their dream Biafra, the South-South chanting Niger-Delta nation and the Yorubas foresee an Oodua Republic. What are we waiting for then? Could it be our brothers who believe in robbing Peter to pay Paul in order to cater for there unmanageable wives and kids?

We jettison our best brains on ethnic conditions cum religion sentiments. The requirements into the unity schools left some droplets on my face(a topic for another day). We celebrate mediocrity just to carry some regions along. Our civil service is messed up with dommies just because someone with 21% in an aptitude test is considered better than an 89% candidate in same test based on one useless sharing formulae.
What's the essence of the classical theory of comparative advantage by David Ricardo? We all know we can't be skilled in one line of practice but our competence and expertise would create a niche for us in our field of call. So, why must we sacrifice professionalism for undeserved bigotry?
If your clime is good at carrying guns, handle it. If mine is better at fishing, so be it.
Trust is another cog in our wheels of success. Marriage is an institution built on trust, so also Nigeria needs it, because all regions were joined together in a matrimony that cannot be termed Holy in 1914.
These and many more are billows contending against the ship Nigeria.
Conclusively, Pa Awo said " It is incontestable that the British not only made Nigeria, but also hand it to us whole on their surrender of power. But the Nigeria, which they handed over to us, had in it the forces of its disintegration. It is up to contemporary Nigerian leaders to neutralise these forces, preserve the Nigerian inheritance, and make all our people free, forward-looking and Prosperous. "
Let's ponder on these questions as we hope to get it right someday.
*Is Nigeria really a country?
*If yes, are we truly independent?
*If no, how do we retrace our steps?

Thanks for reading and please share.
Yours-In-Love
