The iconic Nokia 3310 is back. The phone we all loved to laugh at is back. The dumbest feature phone ever made is coming back to compete in a world shamelessly in the thrall of the smartest of smartphones.



HMD Global, the Finnish company that last year bought Nokia’s technology and branding from Microsoft made the big announcement on Sunday at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, Spain.

But the new Nokia 3310 is not as dumb as the original one despite retaining the name and coming with the classic snake game. It runs Nokia’s more advanced Series 30+ software, features a 2.4-inch QVGA display, a 2 megapixel camera capable of natural and realistic shots, and a memory card slot.



It supports Bluetooth and comes with Opera Mini installed for basic web surfing, with battery life up to a staggering 22 hours on talk time and a month on standby mode, a feat which HMD Global says is three times as good as what the original handset offered.

The original Nokia 3310 was first launched in September 2000 as a basic feature phone capable of making and receiving phone calls. It quickly grew to become one of the best-selling mobile phones of all time, with its affordability, its long battery life and the classic Snake game combining to make sure it continued to enjoy popular appeal across the developing world even after the commercialization of smartphones about ten years ago.

The new variant is also slimer, brighter, and has the more fragile look that is characteristic of smartphones. It comes in different candy colours, and with a price tag of $52, folks will probably want to be seen with it rather than be hiding with it.
