Married Pastor Arrested for Spreading HIV Amongst Church Member in Atlanta In a shocking tale it has been reported that a married pastor has allegedly been arrested for infecting multiple women with the HIV virus. “Pastor” Craig Lamar Davis, of Atlanta’s Full Gospel Baptist Church, is accused of passing the virus to unsuspecting members of the female congregation, reports WVIG. At least two women have come forward to press charges. The report goes onto say that Davis was arrested for reckless conduct after investigators discovered he was sleeping with several women in the church. She says she met him on Facebook and in a short time they started meeting at his home to have sex. A few months into the affair, McAfee claims Davis called and told her that one of his ex-girlfriends had told him she’s tested positive for HIV. Later, she discovered another woman had allegedly contracted HIV from Davis |

Nairaland / General / 17 Beggars Arrested In Osun by 365naijanews(m): 12:12am On Sep 01, 2012 |
Social workers in Osun have arrested about 17 beggars in the last one week in an exercise to get them off the streets, a government official, Mr. Biyi Odunlade, said in Osogbo on Thursday. Odunlade, who is the Special Adviser to the governor on Youths, Sports and Special Needs, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the move was necessary because of the increasing number of beggars in Osogbo. NAN reported that the beggars comprised the destitute, the mentally ill, jobless youths, the elderly, women and miscreants. Odunlade, who expressed dissatisfaction with the ugly development, said the state government had resolved to rid the streets of beggars by rehabilitating and resettling them. He said government could not just chase off the people from the streets without providing alternative means of livelihood, hence the need to tread softly. He said, “We are not in a hurry to carry out this exercise because of the need to put adequate measures in place such as where we can put them till they relocate to join their families. “This is why we have started to prepare temporary rehabilitation centres known as traffic camps. We now have one in Ilobu where those arrested are kept and fed.” |

Sports / Mikel, Moses Set For Super Cup History by 365naijanews(m): 7:49am On Aug 31, 2012 |
Mikel, Moses set for Super Cup history Mikel Obi and his compatriot Victor Moses are in Monaco, France where they hope to emulate former Nigerian star Celestine Babayaro by helping Chelsea win the UEFA Super Cup inside the Stade Louis II. While Mikel is already an established member of the Stamford Bridge army, Moses could make his Chelsea debut against Atletico Madrid just as he has been handed the jersey number 13. The Nigeria international last weekend joined Chelsea on a long- term deal that sees him earning several times his weekly wages at Wigan. The 21-year-old forward is now in line for his debut today. He will also spot the jersey number 13, a spot after Mikel’s number 12 shirt, for ‘The Blues’ this season. Moses’ shirt was last worn by Michael Ballack . Chelsea who shocked Barcelona to claim the UEFA Champions’ League will be up in super battle against another Spanish club Atletico Madrid who won the Europa Cup. In 1998, Chelsea parading Nigeria international defender, Babayaro beat Real Madrid 1-0 to win their first-ever Super Cup. And now the two Nigerians are also hoping to repeat that feat. Mikel was part of history last season as the Stamford Bridge team won their first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy at a time Moses was still playing for Wigan. “The game will be interesting and tough. Atletico Madrid are Europa League champions, that says a lot about them. They won this same trophy last season and will want to retain it,” Mikel told MTNFootball.com. “But I am looking forward to a good game and victory against them. It would be great for me to win this cup, my first and Chelsea’s second.” The cup game will be the last for the two Nigerians before the Africa Nations Cup qualifying game against Liberia in Monrovia. While Mikel who has been exempted from the match returns to London, Moses will adjust his schedule for a trip down to Abuja where the other players are already in camp. On Wednesday Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi announced Monday deadline for all the invited players. In an interview at Stamford Bridge this week, Moses talked about his desire to be part of the team to face Liberia. He featured for the Eagles extensively in the first round of the qualifiers which ended in June. |
Politics / Obasanjo Still Fighting Eedris Over Nigeria Jaga Jaga by 365naijanews(m): 7:08am On Aug 31, 2012 |
About 10 years after ebullient rapper, Eedris Abdukareem, released a song titled Nigeria Jaga jaga, former President Olusegun Obasanjo is still angry with him. Obasanjo had hit back at the artiste when the album was freshly released, with some people quoting him as saying it was the singer’s father’s house that was jagajaga. While many people may largely agree with the singer that the country is truly upside down based on the state of things, Obasanjo, has again described the song as being blasphemous. According to him producing such a song shows that the artiste does not believe in the future of the country. The former president made the remarks in Lagos on Tuesday while speaking at a forum organised by the Nigeria Leadership Initiative. Obasanjo also expressed his passion to see the country excel. Expressing his disdain for the attitude of some Nigerians, he said one of the worst problems Nigeria is facing is disbelief. “Nigerians no longer believe in themselves; neither do they believe in their country. That takes me back to that song ‘jaga jaga’. How could a sane man dare to call his country jaga jaga?” he said. “It is the height of blasphemy. We are grooming our youths for tomorrow’s leadership and with such persons, I don’t think the country can move forward.” The former president has never hesitated to express his displeasure at Abdulkareem, a former member of The Remedies, for deriding Nigeria. The hit track of the album released on Kennis Music label was banned from radio airplay by the president in a televised address, although it enjoyed continued play in nightclubs. Abdulkareem had a chance to reply Obasanjo in January during the fuel subsidy protest. He said, “The man wey say i dey craze because I sing Nigeria Jaga Jaga where him dey now inside this hardship? Na 2002 I singNigeria Jaga Jaga, na 2012 we dey so o.” |

Politics / I Will Expose You, Buhari -babangida. by 365naijanews(m): 7:09am On Aug 28, 2012 |
B*O*M*B*S*H*EL* L! I Will Expose you, Buhari - Babangida. **we have good records of his tenure as petroleum minister. **he also presided over the Petroleum Trust Fund ( PTF) which records we also have. **we are used to Buhari’s so-called holier-than-tho u attitude. A few hours after President Goodluck Jonathan and ex- Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari took a swipe at former leaders, ex-Military President Ibrahim Babangida fired back. He asked Dr. Jonathan to learn to accept criticisms and threatened to expose the “holier-than thou- attitude” of Gen. Buhari. Gen. Babangida, who spoke through Prince Kassim Afegbua, his media adviser, reminded Gen. Buhari that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. He also advised Dr. Jonathan to look elsewhere, not him, if he is blaming past leaders that are criticising him. Kassim said: “On President Jonathan, there is nothing wrong in criticism if it is constructive and in the interest of the country. Gen. Babangida is one unique former President who does not criticise a sitting President as a matter of courtesy. “If President Jonathan is blaming past leaders, he should look elsewhere, certainly not IBB. “On Gen. Buhari, it is not in IBB’s tradition to take up issues with his colleague former President. But for the purpose of record, we are conversant with Gen. Buhari’s so-called holier- than-tho u attitude. “He is a one-time Minister of Petroleum and we have good records of his tenure as minister. “Secondly, he also presided over the Petroleum Trust Fund ( PTF) which records we also have. “We challenge him to come out with clean hands in those two portfolios he headed. Or, we will help him to expose his. “records of performance during those periods.” “Those who live in glass houses do not throw stones. Gen. Buhari should be properly guided.” -- the nation. Politics / UN Observes First Anniversary Of Bomb Attack. by 365naijanews(m): 6:46am On Aug 27, 2012 |
The United Nations agencies and organisations on Sunday in Abuja observed the first anniversary of the bomb attack on the UN country office that killed 23 persons 26, 2011. The UN officials held prayers for the 13 UN staff and 10 non-UN staff who lost their lives in the incident and expressed support to 120 others who sustained various degrees of injuries. The UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Daouda Toure, conveyed the continuous support and appreciation of the UN Secretary-General and all the Executive Heads of various agencies and organisations to all the affected persons and their families. He reiterated his gratitude to the government and people of Nigeria for their active support, solidarity and commitment to the mission of the UN throughout the difficult period. The UN Country Team also expressed gratitude to several federal institutions and state governments which made available temporary offices for various UN agencies during the period of the forced displacement of UN staff and officials. Toure said, “Although the devastating attack took the lives of our colleagues and partners and maimed many people, all of whom were in the building in the pursuit of service to humanity, our spirits have not been dampened. “Their death mobilizes us more than ever before. Their sacrifice will not be in vain. We will strive to pursue our work for the people of Nigeria for the continuance of peace and stability of this great nation, and the socio- economic development of all. “The UN identifies with the people of all its member states, which justifies the expression ‘We, the people,’ as prescribed in the UN Charter. The families of our fallen colleagues should be proud of the altruism of their loved ones.” The UN Resident Coordinator saluted the resilience and courage of UN staff and officials, who had continued with their development and humanitarian work of helping the people of Nigeria regardless of the constraints. |

Business / Faces Of New N5,000 Note by 365naijanews(m): 6:16am On Aug 24, 2012 |
Just yesterday evening the CBN governor gave the news that by next year, 5000 naira note will introduce to the Nigeria economic system. He also state that the face of 3 women will. 365naijanews.com profile the historical personalities due to be the face of the proposed mega currency note. Margaret Ekpo (1914-2006) Margaret Ekpo was a women’s rights activist and social mobiliser who was a pioneer female politician in the First Republic. She was a leading member of a class of traditional Nigerian women activists, many of whom rallied women beyond notions of ethnic solidarity. Ekpo played major roles as a grassroots and nationalist politician in Aba, Abia State in an era when the political space was dominated by men. She was Born in Creek Town, Cross RiverState, Ekpo could only attain standard six before the death of her father halted her dream for further education. Yet, the woman who got married to a doctor, John Ekpo, in 1938, later had the opportunity to study abroad at Rathmines School of Domestic Economics (now DIT Aungier Street), Dublin. She got a diploma in domestic science and on her return to Nigeria, she established a Domestic Science and Sewing Institute in Aba. Her first direct participation in political association was in 1945.Her husband was indignant withthe colonial administrators treatment of indigenous Nigerian doctors but as a civil servant, he could not attend meetings to discuss the matter.Margaret Ekpo then attended meetings in place of her husband. The meetings were organised to discuss the discriminatory practices of the colonial administration in the city and to fight cultural and racial imbalance in administrativepromotions. She later attended a political rally and was the only woman at the rally, which saw fiery speeches from Mbonu Ojike, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Herbert Macaulay. By the end of the decade she had organised a Market Women Association in Aba to unionise market women in the city. She used the association to promote women solidarity as a platform to fight for the economic rights of women, economic protections and expansionary political rightsof women. As part of her activism, she, in the 1950s, teamed up with Funmilayo Ransome Kuti to protest killings at an Enugu coal mine, the victims were leaders protesting colonial practices at the mine. In 1953, she was nominated by the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons to the regional House of Chiefs and in 1954, she established the Aba Township Women’s Association. As leader of the new market group, she was able to garner the trust of a large amount of women in the township and turn it into a political pressure group. By 1955, women in Aba had out numbered men voters ina city wide election. She won a seat into the Eastern Regional House of Assembly in 1961. A position that allowed her to fight for issues affecting women at the time. In particular, were issues on the progress of women in economic and political matters, especially in the areas of transportation around major roads leading to markets and rural transportation in general. After a military coup ended the First Republic, she took a less prominent approach to politics. In 2001, the Calabar Airport was named after her. Hajia Gambo Sawaba (1933-2001) Gambo Sawaba was a vocal and radical politician and activist who was a supporter of the Northern Elements Progressive Union during the First Republic. According to Nigerian Wiki , she was one of the early members of NEPU in Zaria, then the party identified with the working class and poor and was manned by their main support base. Her political activities during the period earned her persecutions from both the colonial authorities and the native administrations which resulted in her being incarcerated for more than a dozen times. She was also known for some of her charitable causes and also for her views on women’s liberationin the arena of politics. Sawaba’s first political incident with the law occurred in Kano where she was sent to help NEPU to canvass for women support. As soon as the reports of her activities reached the emir, she was arrested and tried by an Alkali court. She was convicted and sent to prison where a certain warden deemed to be a lesbian was accused of misusing her powers.Sawaba used some of her tricks to get the warden fired. After her release, she went public with the appalling prison conditions that also got her and a a reporter arrested again. She was later asked to leave Kano by the Emir. Through the First Republic, Sawaba continued with her political activities sometimes suffering humiliating punishments from oppositions thugs. She supported women’s right to vote and was elected leader ofthe women’s wing of NEPU. Sawaba was born to the family of Fatima and Isa Amarteifo. Herfather was of Ghanaian origin while her mother was from Nupeland. Gambo Sawaba was born in 1933, initially she was called Hajaratu but because shewas born after a set of twins, she came to be known as Gambo. Her last name was supposedly given to her by Mallam Gambo Sawaba, an outstanding member of NEPU in Zaria who was twice elected tothe Zaria City Council. Funmilayo Ransome- Kuti (1900-1978) Born Francis Abigail Olufunmilayo Thomas to the family of Daniel Olumeyuwa Thomas and Lucretia Phyllis Omoyeni Adeosolu, legendary Funmilayo was the mother of the late fiery musician, Fela Anikulapo Kuti ; activist physician Beko Ransome- Kuti; and Professor Olikoye Ransome-Kuti,a doctor and former health minister of Nigeria. She was a teacher, political campaigner, women’s rights activist and traditional aristocrat. She served with distinction as one of the most prominent leaders of her generation. Ransome-Kuti’s political activism led to her being described as the doyen of female rights in Nigeria, as well as to her being regarded as “The Mother of Africa.” She was a very powerful force advocating for the Nigerian women’s right to vote . She was described in 1947, by the West African Pilot as the “Lioness of Lisabi” for her leadership of the women ofthe Egba clan that she belonged to on a campaign against their arbitrary taxation. That struggle led to the abdication of the Egba high king Oba Ademola II in 1949. Born on 25 October 1900, in Abeokuta, her father was a sonof a returned slave from Sierra Leone, who traced his ancestral history back to Abeokuta in what is today Ogun State, Nigeria. She became a member of the Anglican Faith, and soon returned to the homeland of his fellow Egbas, Abeokuta. Ransome-Kuti received the national honour of membership in the Order of Nigeria in 1965. Throughout her career, she was known as an educator and activist. She and Elizabeth Adekogbe provided dynamic leadership for women’s rights inthe ‘50s. She founded an organisation for women in Abeokuta, with a membership tally of over 20,000 individuals spanning both literate and illiterate women. Apart from campaigning for women votes, she founded the Egba or Abeokuta Women’s Union along with Eniola Soyinka (her sister-in-law and the mother of the Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka). This organisation is said to have once had a membership of 20,000 women. Among other things, Fumilayo Ransome-Kuti organised workshops for illiterate market women. She continued to campaign against taxes and price controls. Prior to independence she founded the Commoners Peoples Party in an attempt to challenge the ruling NCNC, ultimately denying them victory in her area. She got 4,665 votes to NCNC’s 9,755, thus allowing the opposition Action Group (which had 10,443 votes)to win. She was one of the delegates that negotiated Nigeria’s independence with the British.
