Former Group Managing Director,GMD, of the National Nigerian Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Andrew Yakubu has dragged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before a Federal High Court sitting in Kano over the forfeiture of $9.8m, £74,000 seized from him.

Recall that Justice Zainab Bage Abubakar of the federal high court Kano, had ordered that the $9.8 million and 74,000 pounds recovered from Yakubu be forfeited to the federal government.


EFCC had recently uncovered $9.8m, 74,000 pounds from a fire proof safe in a building linked to the former NNPC boss in Kaduna.

Counsel to Yakubu, Ahmed Raji, who confirmed the development said his client was seeking redress over the earlier forfeiture order.

Speaking through Barrister Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, Raji said the suit against the anti-graft agency was seeking the court to vacate the forfeiture order earlier granted by Justice Zainab,

It is not done that way! Efcc must prove the money is proceed of corruption or criminal activities. It is not enuff to bust money in saner climes, efcc would be paying for damages for job badly done!

l disagree, NNPC and several other government corporations are haven of big time corruption, their CEO and subordinates are big time thieves, l am talking from an insider position, as long as that house belongs to him where the money was found and he admitted that it was a gift, that is enough to nail him to his coffin, the guy deserves to be flogged with chilly pepper and jailed, nonsense

Still not done that way! Have u ever wonder Why efcc is yet to get a conviction? The answer is in the way they go about their work.

The judiciary is also not helping matters, a high profile criminal like these guy will look for ways to bribe his way out by giving brown envelopes to frustrate the case with several injunctions / adjournments and delays in situations like that EFCC's hands will be tied
