Remembering The Sokoto Raid by ImadeUReadThis: 8:43pm On Mar 05, 2017
On 8 March 2012, members of the British military Special Boat Service supported by members of the Nigerian Army attempted a rescue mission to rescue British hostage Chris McManus and Italian hostage Franco Lamolinara from Boko Haram supported by Al Qaeda in Sokoto in north-west Nigeria. The mission failed when both hostages were executed by their captors.

This about sums the official narrative surrounding the failed rescue mission.
But what most of you are unaware of is that the British special forces (SBS) where at the last minute barred from participating in the raid. A few days after the news broke on the failed rescue mission, a British online newspaper cited confidential sources as to what exactly transpired. The article was quickly pulled down by the British govt with not a single trace of it online. The MoD will later recall all SBS operators involved in the rescue mission and issue serious warning and a gag order barring all SBS personal from talking to the press about the raid.

The lead article (which has since been pulled down) exposed gross incompetence on the part of the Nigerian special forces who insisted on going alone without SBS personnel. The Nigerian military authorities convinced the British govt that it will be hard to miss a group of gun totting white guys driving around a dusty northern town. The British planned an aerial insertion with helicopters but the Nigerian army refused that option as well.

The official narrative has it that the mission lasted a few minutes before the hostages were killed by their abductors who happened to have killed themselves on sensing Nigerian troops breaching the compound. This is far from the truth as the raid ended up being a fierce fire-fight that lasted up to 8hrs. The abductors only turned their guns on themselves and hostages after they were about running out of ammo.

The source also claimed that Nigerian special forces tossed burning car tyres into the building to smoke out the terrorists.

I had to bring this up because of the recent revelation by the British govt that they were prevented to rescue the chibok girls after locating them and that we should all pause and reflect on the fact that 99.9% of what is actually transpiring in the war against boko haram as reported by the media is shrouded in smog of lies.
