When, How and why you should add Limestone to your farm soil

When: Liming recommendations for managing pH are always based on a soil management approach. Limestone is recommended based on the measured soil pH, the desired soil pH for the crops grown and the acidity level of the soil as measured by the test. Generally, limestone recommendations are for an application every few years to maintain the soil pH in the optimum range for the crops being grown. The limestone recommendations must be adjusted for the quality of the limestone being used. The most important limestone quality parameters are calcium carbonate equivalent and fineness.

How: It can be applied by professionals who will base the application on the outcome of the soil PH test....do not try it if you have not done your soil PH test. over liming intoxicate the soil leading to poor yield.

why: You should add limestone to the soil to ameliorate the soil PH base on the crop to be planted. Various crop survive more in different soil PH.

If you planning to develop that dormant land of yours next planting season, the time to test the soil fertility is now!!!

In preparation for another planting season, it will be great if we intending farmers do things right by checking the fertility of that farm u intend putting to use.

Gone are the days we just bury seed, cover with soil and go home to sleep expecting bountiful harvest. Presently, the soil that have even be left for 39years to fallow is been discovered to lack vital nutrients due to natural environmental forces like
1. Erosion
2. global warming
3. Deforestation
4. depletion of the ozone layer
just to mention a few

All these above mention forces are beyond the control of man and such the only way we farmers can cope with them is to test out soil to know how much they have been affected so that we can ameliorate the soil before farming.

do not be deceived with the saying that "God has blessed our soil" and as such follow the ignorant internet farmers who will say testing your soil fertility is of no use.....

call kenfarm today and u will be glad u did the right thing at harvest time

The picture below is a healthy plantain plantation belonging to our esteem client. The suckers where showing symptoms of lack of specific nutrient and stunted growth due to poor management. Kenfarm was contracted to salvage the situation 4months ago.

The first thing we did was to sample the soil, conduct a soil fertility test after which we discovered the lacking nutrient and we fix it. We quickly collect records of all farm activities in the last 2months before we took over and realised things has not been done in the proper way.

After our intervention precesses the farm is taking a good shape now like you can see in the picture below.

njidekaemeghara:

Over the years of conducting soil analysis, we have noticed that Nigerian soil generally shows similar soil characteristics from region to region. meaning soil in the south west appear different in soil characteristics (especially soil PH) when compared with soil in South east. The soil PH is one factor that determines the yield of your crop. This is why it important you plant crop which strive better in alkaline soil in a soil with PH 7 above. Otherwise you need to ameliorate the soil by adjusting the PH of the soil to suit the crop.

Now to your Question, if you need to get a general list of crop that strive in acidic and alkaline soil, I advice yu use google. But if you need me to tell you soil I have cultivated in alkaline and acidic soil practically, then the list is below.

Alkaline soil loving crop:
1. Plantain
2. cucumber
3. pumpkin
4. Banana
5. Pawpaw

Acidic soil loving crops:
TREE CROP
1. Apple(red one)
2. Grapes
3. Orange
3. Pawpaw

VEGETABLES
1. Cucumber
2. Tomatoes
3. Sweet corn

CASH CROP
Cassava

Those crop appearing in both alkaline and acidic soil are those we have planted in both type of soil and they did just great in terms of good yield.

kenfarm do not spread news she is yet to confirm. all the crops above have been cultivated for our client or managed for our client on the respective Soil PH. Before we plant any crop, we usually conduct a soil PH test to be sure we are putting a round peg in a round hole.

As regards the cost of our analysis, yu can send us a mail via : kenfarm2020@gmail.com

we send you a document showing the cost implication of testing your soil. Do include the size of your farm in your email.
Cheers!!

The Wonderful Natural Liquid Fertilizer

Super Gro, as the name suggests, is the most wonderful natural liquid fertilizer ever produced for agro industry. It is meant for the purpose of growing crops and plants in order to add much value to them. This is to ensure that agricultural productivity is enhanced both in quality and in quantity.

Super Gro Liquid Fertilizer being natural in essence means that it is devoid of chemical input which makes it different from the conventional chemical fertilizer that we all know. The advantages of Super Gro Natural Liquid Fertilizer over the Chemical Fertilizer are numerous and very great.

Because crops and plants depend so much on water, Super Gro is meant to improve the quality and quantity of water as required by these crops and plants for wonderful growth and production by adding the essential nutrients they require for that purpose.

Soil analysis is still paramount to ascertain if the soil can be ameliorated with fertilizer. It may be of interest to know that some crop will not produce expected yield even after applying whatever type of fertilizer. such farm land is the type that require you cross exermine not the nutrient level but the rate of photosynthesis, moisture level, particle size composition and textural class.

So if you planted your crop with organic or inorganic fertilizer and your crop is showing yellow patches, brownish sport, yellowish leaf, or even stunted growth. call us up to sample your soil and test the fertility of the soil and save yourself the impending disaster ahead.

........a stitch in time saves.......

We always respond to our FAQs .....however, it important to note that the price for soil fertility test depends on:
1. whether we visiting or you sending down the soil
2. The size of the farm
3. Method we would be adopting in collecting the soil and analysis

Thus, it is base on these above conditions and more that we can not put up a price on this platform... so if you are interested in our services, you can send us

Season greatings to all our esteem and potential customers!!!!!!
May this new awaited planting season be a testimony to all farmers....

Gradually we are attracting the attention of our Government. It is our belief that soonest Agriculture will take up the stage in the Nigeria Economy..

We at kenfarm wish to bring the below info to the notice of our potential fatmers and those hoping to put that idle land of thires to use this farming season.......

Are we aware that soil in the tropical zone when brought under cultivation quickly become deficient in many nutrients due to LEACHING caused by excessive rainfall

Also, we wish to inform you that With intensive cropping, nitrogen is the primary limiting nutrient followed by phosphorus......(more info in our eBook).

Also, are we aware that the most suitable soil for cassava production is a well-drained sandy loam and loamy sand soil base on Research

If this is the case, don't we think it wise to test for your soil fertility before puting that farm land to cultivation of TME419 cassava stem

The soil fertility test will reveal the lacking nutrient in your farm land soil, it will indicate the soil PH, it will tell you soil textural class so as to know the type of soil you have in your farm land.

All of these soil properties and more are what kenfarm will test and also give concise recommendations base on your soil fertility test outcome.

Ignorance is never an reason for failure....do the needful before cultivating that land

Good luck
Cheers!!

The plantain sucker shown on the picture below belong to a client who consulted kenfarm after suspecting the suckers appearance aren't good enough.

Kenfarm visited the farm, picked soil samples and test the soil fertility. Part of our findings after soil analysis is stated below:

The plantain leaves in the picture below are showing d sign of deficiency in nutrient. The picture show serious deficiency in nitrogen (yellow colour on the leave) & potassium ( brownish colour along d leaf vein to d leaf tip).

Solution:
The suckers should be fertilized with NPK (15:15:15) to improve the level of NPK to critical level. We also recommended that the farm owner stop intercroping to avoid competetion for nutrient. The method of applying the NPK was stated and we calculated the Qty to be applied base on result outcome.

Do not wait until your crop turn out bad. Check for your farm soil fertility before planting. Otherwise, it gonna be double expenses.

Cheers!!

Are you aware that your farm soil textural class determines the method of planting you will adopt when planting your TME419 cuttings??

If your farm soil is for example sand loamy and you do not adopt the best planting method adapted for sand loamy soil, it will predispose your growing stem to rudent attack or even tuber rotten

Your soil textural class can be known only when we perform your soil analysis

Re: Why Soil Analysis On That Farmland?? by Ken4agent(m): 6:39pm On Mar 08, 2018
Vital info to kenfarm esteem followers who may plan to cultivate TME 419 cassava stem intercrop with maize:

To obtain optimum crop yield, there is need to feed the crop with NPK (15:13:15) fertilizer two times. For maize, application could be done at 2 and 4 weeks after sowing of seeds. Cassava can be fertilized at 4 and 8 weeks after planting.

For inter cropping of maize and cassava at the same time, then some factors such as spacing, fertilizer application and direction of ridges needs to be properly considered.

It is advisable to plant maize first while cassava could be planted after 4 weeks of planting maize. This is because cassava is a heavy and aggressive feeder of NPK unlike maize.

However, I need to inform us that if you perform your soil test and the exchangeable cations and concentration of NPK is on critical level or above critical level, then you can plant both TME419 cassava stem and maize at the same time as there will be no competition for nutrient.

Your soil test outcome determines lots of decision to make on your crop/farm

Stop the contemporary fermer who believes soil test is never relevant and joint the conventional farmers who approve of soil test as first preplanting operation
Cheers!!

Planting maize first then planting cassava after 4 weeks will prevent competition in feeding between the cassava and Maize because all nutrient needed by maize will be taken up within 2 to 4 weeks after planting before the cassava develop root to take up all the available NPK in the farm soil.

The soil textural class can only be known if we conduct a soil test on your farm soil
Re: Why Soil Analysis On That Farmland?? by Ken4agent(m): 8:36pm On Mar 31, 2018
Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) cmol/kg

CEC is a value that can be determined only when a soil test is conducted on your farm soil.
What is the usefulness of the value

Where the value is greater than one, it implies that all the cations in the soil will be released for the uptake of the crop. Where the value is less than one it means that all the cations are trap in the soil and will not be released to the crop for uptake…
Thus, the only way to increase the value of CEC is by knowing the soil PH and increasing the soil PH to acidic.

Kenfarm analysed a farm soil today and the test showed or indicated that the farm soil has a cation exchangeable capacity of 0.85cmol/kg. Agronomically, any soil indicating CEC value of greater than 1 indicate that the cations like K, Can, Mg and Na will be released adequately into the soil for the plant to take up. Hence, since your farm soil has a CEC value of 0.85 which is less than 1, it means the cations will not be released except fertilizer is added to the soil. When fertilizer is added to the soil adequately, then the CEC value will increase and so the cations will be available to the crop for uptake.

Google the importance of actions mention above to the crop and then you see reason the do a soil analysis on that farmland.

candygirl4real:
Where is the OP
PLS enlighten us more about the soil test.

We are in Ibadan the south west zone of Nigeria......soil test is simply checking for how fertile your farm soil is. When you know the level of all the nutrient in the soil, your soil class, whether or not the nutrient can be release to the crop for uptatake and many more info about your farm soil, you are following Agronomical best practise. The knowledge of your soil fertility help farmers to:
1. Know type of fertilizer to apply, what Qty, when to apply and what method of application to adopt
2. It helps farmer know what intervention measure to take when your crop is looking distressed
3. It helps the farmer to predict safely expected yield
4. It helps farmers to know whether or not the soil needs amelioration before planting
5. It helps farmers to manage the crop
6. It help farmers to know if the farm soil can be used for mix cropping and which crop can be intercroped.
I can go on and on......

Kenfarm must quickly say not all soil test is standardized to help you know all the above. Do not patronise cheap and substandard soil fertility testing expert .....kenfarm pride herself in the expertise put into our clients soil fertility test. For more detail, contact us via:
kenfarm2020@gmail.com or call the phone line on our signature asap.

........Join the new generation farmers who wouldn't take any valid decision on their farm until the farm soil fertility is ascertain.

Ecological factors, global warming cum Human spacial pattern have degraded our land, hence, there is urgent need to know the level of degradation of that farm soil before putting to use.
Cheers!!
