Could Not- Poem by lalaponcus(m): 10:51am On Mar 14, 2017
COULD NOT

I could not understand
How they all looked at him in disgust.
His cries turning into a ring tone that made them laugh.
His twitching turning into a sight that made them drunk in joy.

"See as im bodi dey dance for ground. Like fowl wey just lose im head"

He had just lost his head actually.
The blood stained dagger still laid there factually.
His last wail still registered in the air gloomily
Yet they tried to drown it with alcohol dreadfully.

I could not understand.
How he felt while being driven into his fortress.
Lazily gazing at the dilapidated school he was taught as a kid.
Passively ignoring the guilt of the squalor of the whole village.
His black jeep bumping up and down,
A wail coming out from the lips of badly damaged road on which he drove on.

How could he keep such a huge amount in that village?
Bands of crisp dollar bills lying idle in a poverty ridden area.
Lush pound notes caressing the walls of the fire proof cupboard with a dilapidated shop as its next door neighbor

Where did his conscience go?
With which iron rod did he bash it to death with?
With which lye did he desolve the bloody entrails of the conscience?
And under the bed of what lake did he dump the last remains?

I could not understand.
How he felt when she told him about his baby.
His face slowly transforming into a beasts'
His memory undergoing a quick system format.

File on the sweet sex without condoms- DELETED (reserved in recycle bin for future boasts to friends)

Videos of the time I told her she was the one- DELETED (Go to recycle bin and Deleted again)

Videos of the pastor saying abortion is against God's will- DELETED (computer dashed against the wall to prevent any recovery)

How did he do it?

Telling her he was not responsible for the baby.
Gently telling her to 'get rid of it' at the local 'Aboki dokita' while the little one slept in her womb.
Furiously shoving her away when she reminded him that 'it' was a life and an evidence of his seed.

I really cannot understand it at all.
