The building was designed by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture of Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Conceived to reach a height of 1.6km, the building when completed will stand at a 999.7 meters tall. The Jeddah Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is currently under construction and will be completed in the year 2020.

The entire project is estimated to cost around $1.2 billion.
The skyscraper is expected to be 999.7 meters tall, and will be 182.8 meters taller than the current world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
The building, also referred as the Kingdom Tower, will house the world’s highest observatory. It will also have a total floor area of 245,000 square meters, including an outdoor balcony with a diameter of 29.8 meters.
This multipurpose building will accommodate 360 residential apartments, offices, a 200-room Four Seasons Hotel and 121 serviced apartments.
With the skyscraper having 200 floors, it will have 59 elevators and 12 escalators. Five of the elevators will be double decker.
To cope with the potential damage from saltwater from the ocean, the foundation of the building will go 60 meters deep.
