The Senate has ordered the Comptroller-General Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali, rtd. to go home and return next week Wednesday being the 22nd of March 2017 in uniform.

At the plenary today, the Senate, in a voice vote mandated the Customs boss to come in uniform on Wednesday 22nd March, 2017.Recall that Mr. Ali stormed the Senate Chambers Thursday without wearing the complete Customs Uniform as directed by the Senate.

Ali who entered the Chambers at 12 noon began answering questions from the Senators on why he did not wear Uniform. He arrived the National Assembly around at past 8am and at 9.30 am, he went straight to the office of the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki where he met with with the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Ali who dressed in white Caftan, white cap and black shoes to match, went to Enang’s office at 10.36am shortly after Ekweremadu and other principal officers entered the chambers. However, in his answer to the Senators, Ali told them that he has no knowledge of any law which compels him to wear uniform.

It would be recalled that the Senate yesterday mandated the NCS boss to appear before it today at 10am and explain why he has refused to honour the invitation of the upper chambers to come and explain his action on the implementation of the controversial policy.

The decision of the Senate yesterday followed a motion by Senator George Sekibo, PDP, Rivers East who relied on Section 89 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria( as amended) and seconded by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu. However, at today’s plenary, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu thanked the CG of Customs for honouring Senate’s invitation but asked him why he was not wearing the Customs uniform as mandated.

According to Ekweremadu, “Please oblige us if you have any reason for not wearing the Customs uniform.? But in response Mr. Ali said there is no law against him not wearing Uniform.

Having being a uniformed officer b4 he was made a custom boss, why is he finding it difficult to wear uniform? I mean it should be part of him already. does he even need to be asked to wear it? o diegwu o.

Buharis are just used to breaking our laws. We venture buhari himself has not been obeying our laws. Appointing Ali as the cg of custom is illegal. Appointing any cg of custom should be among th high ranking customs. But buhari failed on that side taking decisions that would favor him. Now for this man to dishonor the call from a whole Senate, he disrespected the invitation, making useless and powerless our legislators. This guy needs to be sacked. Coming today as well without customs uniform is just crazy.

Since buhari came into power all we have been seeing is lawlessness from buhari to others. angry

I think the man is not at fault, I blame Buhari who handpicked a retired colonel to be the head of custom, where we have enough senior staff within the custom hierarchy that could easily fill the position.
Nigeria is going nowhere until we are able to detach nepotism from our political system.
