PRESS RELEASE-CSO BLASTS NASS MEMBERS, SAYS POSITION ON ALI BELOW EXPECTATION

We have watched the unending melodrama orchestrated by members of the 8th National Assembly against the hardworking Controller-General of Nigerian Customs Service, retired Col. Hameed Ali with keen interest and concern.

We have also noticed how members of the 8th National Assemly especially our undistinguished Senators have abandoned the laws that will uplift the general wellbeing of Nigerians which they were elected to make for the country in pursuits of trivial issues that has no legal or legislative backing in this country.

How can a responsible Senate that is truly responsive to the yearnings of Nigerians illegally turn itself to law enforcement agency on a trivial issue like wearing uniform or not wearing uniform. Is that what they were elected and paid fat salaries to do for Nigerians?

How has Ali's decision not to wear uniform affected the efficiency of the job he was appointed to do by Mr. President?

Does that take away the fact that under Col. Ali, Nigerian Customs Service now generates N1.5 billion every day in to our National Treasury?

Our undistinguished Senators should have told Nigerians that Ali's policy on cars would make them to pay more taxes to the Federal Government on the fleets of cars they are hiding in their houses in Maitama and Asokoro instead of using the uniform issue as smokescreen to divert attention from the main issue.

We are therefore warning our undistinguised Senators to be distinguishable next week Wednesday.

Anything short of that would lead to massive protest that would prevent anybody from entering or going out of the National Assembly Complex for one month because they are stealing tax payers money in the name of salary which they never worked for.

Seconded.

They are actually running away from the duties they will end up paying for their fleet of cars but claim to be fighting for the common man who doesn't even know where his next meal will come from let alone payment of Customs Duties.

How many ordinary Nigerians have the "necessary connections" and influence to evade Import Duties?

Bunch of opportunists and thieves.

Same goes for Magu, the ag EFCC boss.

It's a nice drama to watch and the I'll like to title it 'THE GAME OF PRIDE'
The Senate and Customs are both wrong concerning the uniform thing. Ali should have worn it since it's a known and recognised convention for those serving in similar position especially when necessary. Somethings are considered right howbeit not legal. But as regards the Senate, they are interested in humbling/humiliating him with it uniform saga using the smokescreen of his supposed disrespect for the Senate, when in the actual sense they are being driven by pride.
And to the writer saying the new customs law would affect the rich and affluent, I'm sorry to say, he doesn't know what he is saying. It's the common man that had to go through Benin to buy that Tokumbo car that the customs will find easy to harass or you that you bought a fairly used car whose original importer was smart enough to evade paying necessary duties. Who wan stop Oga Politicians them, and even if they do they have friends at the top to facilitate their car release. The new law is just to complement the customs inefficiency and corruption at the nations entry points. The controversial law would also mean that, you now finding custom officer in our inner roads, thus, giving them the impetus to start collecting bribes. Then you'll understand that when it comes to bribery and corruption, the police are learning.

When they don't have work to do... what do you expect.

I can't imagine that our Senators will concern themselves with trivial things like uniform.

Abeg leave matter for Mathias...the guy is a sadist.

Nigerian Custom is known to be more corrupt than the police. The CG was brought in to sanitize the place but he (as people in his age grade) has gone ahead to introduce a wicked and backward policy.

He should reform the organization, bring in modern tracking systems to ensure that nothing enters the country without their approval. He should provide leadership. He should work with them.

Unfortunately, you can't give what you don't have. You can't even do the least all "to wear their uniform" because it is beneath you.

He is one of the ancestors, he has no place in a modern system! There is reason why people retire...

Guy first of all you lied by saying that custom customs is generating 1.5 billion naira daily and to come to your stunt write up for Hamid Ali I hope you know the civil service rules Hamid Ali was wrongly brought from outside to impose on the custom service because there was no senior hausa fulani man then in the customs is that fair have that been done before, again what is so important and Germaine in the new customs policy rather than coming after igbo man business which Law warrants custom to act beyond the borders is it because Nigerians have been quiet about it where the custom turned ore, Benin and late delta state river Niger head bridge to border post because they are targeting igbo man businesses even even more worrisome what they did during Christmas celebration by going after the the bags of rice igbo bought for Christmas, they stole off those bags of rice in the disguise of looking for foreign rich until Anambra youth confronted them after series of complaints and Peter Obi petitions, the next now is igbo man car shops which has been the envious area for hausa fulani, they been finding a way to destroy that business, like the did in cement where they gave it to only dangote knowing that hausa fulani does not build and hiking the price to stop others like the igbo from building massively

The question is how did those cars entered into the country, even even you who is talking innocent if you buy car and register it what right does custom have to check your car duty after using it for even a year, if you leave bigotry and sentiments you will see clear to customs plans

The job of smugglers is to smuggle goods, for various reasons ranging from contraband to evading payment of duty, into the country.
The US, irrespective of the level of technological advancement, still cannot completely Mann it's borders. They still arrest pple and confiscate smuggled goods within thier country.
Smugglers specialize in exploiting porous borders.
Custom's corruption at the border is not a justification to legitimise smuggling.
As a gud citizen insist on buying only properly cleared guds and vehicles with genuine duty.
If u dont do this whatever u get is ur fault.

you don't know the kind of cars these politicians use... imagine a politician bought a vehicle for almost 400million naira and trying not to pay import duty. you think Ali doesn't know what he's doing? his target are these people... that's why they are fighting back, using uninformed Nigerians to fight him.
