2017 appears to be the year that ‘bezel-less’smartphone design goes mainstream , with LGand Sony having already embraced the trend.Samsung looks set to follow, with leakedimages showing off a handset with a front panelthat’s almost entirely screen.The regular Galaxy S8 will feature a 5.8-inch,2,960 x 1,440 display, while the larger GalaxyS8+ will use a 6.2-inch screen with the sameresolution.In order to keep the handsets relativelycompact, Samsung has decided to ditch thehome button, and the company’s branding willonly feature on the back panel. The logo will sitbelow the the rear camera and potentiallyproblematically placed fingerprint scanner.It appears to be positioned abnormally high upon the phone’s rear panel, potentially making ituncomfortable to reach, especially for userswith small hands. Its off-centre placement – tothe right of the camera sensor – could alsofavour right-handed users more than left-handedusers.Leaks suggest the phones will be available inblack, silver and violet colour schemes.

One of the S8’s most notable rumouredfeatures is Bixby, a new multilingual AIassistant said to be capable of recognising textand real-world objects through the Galaxy S8’scamera and tracking them down online, allowingusers to make quick purchases.It’s also expected to run the latest version ofAndroid Nougat, and feature IP68 dust- andwater-resistance, expandable storage through amicroSD port and a security-focused irisscanner.Given that Samsung has openly mocked Apple’scontroversial decision to drop the headphonejack from the iPhone 7, it seems safe toassume that the S8 will offer the familiar audioconnection.
