I think the reason betrayal hurts so much is because it usually comes from a loved one.

Bukola Elegede, (a.k.a Asha ) sang:

" So it was you, it was really you, you picked up the knife, then you cut me into two, you stabbed me at the back, then you twisted it in..."

Your enemy cannot betray you only your friend can. Why?

Firstly, it is because we usually have 'no deal' with our enemies where we would expect their loyalty.

Secondly,it is also because we don't usually confide in our enemies, we confide in our friends, family or spouse and we usually expect them to be loyal to us.

Events around the world have shown that the people we confide in may sometimes(if not most times) betray us, we have heard of stories of spouses betraying each other, brothers betraying brothers, sisters betraying sisters, children betraying parents and so on. The common thing about all these betrayals is that they involve two parties that had trusted each other before.

No man believes that his friend can betray him not until it happens, then they say, " I didn't believe she could do that" or ,"I trusted him,".

The spate of betrayal going on in life has made our parents and elderly ones to always tell us," Don't trust anybody", "People are dangerous," "People cannot be trusted".

But the fact is that we all need loyal friends, we need people we can trust,we don't have to be cynical every time . We can not live our life happy if we don't trust anyone (to some degree).

We cannot do away with other people, they need us, we need them. So what do we do? How do we get loyal friends? If you want loyal friends, first learn how to become one. Don't ask people what you yourself cannot give, can your friend confide in you?

Also, never put TOO MUCH trust in people, trust some of them, but not too much. We also have to know that not everyone can be trusted equally. Make friends, but be careful, watch out for YELLOW ALERTS warning you of impending danger.

Having loyal friends will make our life happy, we will feel safe, secured and loved. But we have to be wise with friendship and people we call our 'loved ones'.

I will end this with one of Voltaire's statements, he said, "Lord, protect me from my friends, I can take care of my enemies".
