Spread knowledge on fraud and fraud related matters. Provide awareness through media, training, and workshops. And serve as a centre for collation of information related to fraud and fraud related matters.” These are some of the objectives of CCFA – Centre for Counter Fraud Awareness. CCFA is a non-profit organisation committed to protecting people and businesses by educating the public on fraud and fraud related issues including human trafficking and all forms of economic and financial crimes.

“Nigerians have a bad reputation internationally as being fraudsters and corrupt, and this does not speak well of us,” says Nelson Aluya, a trustee of the organisation. “That’s why a few of us decided to put our resources together and devise an effective way to tackle fraud in Nigeria. We can’t leave it all to the government.”

CCFA collates and shares data using technology while working in partnership with various stakeholders across the board; private sector practitioners, law enforcement agencies and professionals in various industries. Therefore, the organisation provides expert advice, and fraud data to concerned citizens and establishments by offering a subscription-based service whereby an individual or an organisation pays to get fraud data.

“If you’re looking to do business with an individual and you want to make certain that the person is legit, all you have to do is subscribe and put your request through, and we’ll supply data as needed,” Umar Yakubu, a trustee tells Ventures Africa. All it takes is a few steps of online registration and a wealth of information that would save you or your business would be made available.
