The secretary to the government of the federation Babachir Lawal has made a u-turn on his defiance to appear before the National Assembly lawmakers.

In a previous letter Lawal said he will not be appearing before the Senate because he had instituted a legal action against the lawmakers.

However, in a fresh letter dated Wednesday, March 22, the SGF asked the Senate to reschedule its meeting for the probe on mismanagement of funds earmarked for humanitarian intervention in the North-East.
The SGF in his letter said he would not be able to appear before the panel, “primarily because of a pressing engagement of government which clashed with the date and time of the hearing.”

Lawal also said he is ready to appear before the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North-East.

The SGF had claimed to drag the Senate to court after the lawmakers summoned him over allegation of mismanagement of public funds meant for the North-East intervention programme.

Lawal in his previous letter had said: "I wish to kindly request that you draw the attention of the other members of the committee that I will not be able to appear before the committee primarily because I have gone to court to challenge the invitation among others."
Lawal has been accused of spending N270 million for grass cutting in the North-East.

An allegation currently being investigated by the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North-East.

Recall that the Senate had earlier said it had drooped its planned investigation of Secretary to the Government of the Federation and his company Rholavision over alleged contract scandal.

The Senate said one of the reasons for the postponement is that Rholavisionhad informed the committee that its managing director had not been reachable since he traveled to the village over the death of a relation.
