International beverage company Coca-Cola, in a bid to expand its customer base, said it plans to invest $600 million in Nigeria in the next few years.

This was revealed by Peter Njonjo, President West Africa operations. Coca-cola also plans to increase the proportion of raw materials sourced from Nigeria to 75% by 2020.

Coca-cola said it plans to expand its offering of drinks to include flavored and condensed milk, iced tea and bottled water to meet demand in the country.

Coca Cola also plans to take full control of Chi Limited in the next 3 years, having bought a 40% stake in the company for $240 million last year.

The investments are part of a larger strategy, by the Coca-Cola company to invest $20 billion in Africa.

Ebunoluwa Adesanya, a final year student of mass communication at Babcock University, has been diagnosed with lupus nephritis, a disease that affects the kidneys.

Adesanya was diagnosed with the life-threatening condition in November 2016 — three months to her final examinations at the university.

Lupus nephritis is an inflammation of the kidney caused by systemic lupus erythematous (SLE) also called lupus.

With lupus, the body’s immune system targets its own body tissues. When the kidneys are inflamed, they cannot function normally and can leak protein, leading to kidney failure.

According to Nkanu Egbe, a friend of Adesanya, she fell ill regularly while in school and received treatment at the school’s clinic.

Adeyosola Idada, her mother, had to withdraw her from school when she learnt of the diagnosis.

Adesanya needs £100,000 (N48 million) for a kidney transplant in the UK, as both of her kidneys have failed.

“In Ebun’s case, both her kidneys have failed. She has to go for dialysis three times a week,” Egbe said.

“This is financially stressful as each session at LASUTH, Ikeja, costs as high as N80,000.

“Furthermore, she now requires a kidney transplant as the doctors say both her kidneys are damaged and need replacement. The procedure at the Hammersmith Hospital, London, may cost as much as £100,000.

“Because of the high cost of the treatment, an appeal for humanitarian assistance has gone out to well-meaning members of the public to help save Ebun’s life.”

Idada said her daughter experiences severe pain, adding that the transplant needs to be done within six months.

“Since the diagnosis, she has had to drop out of school and ever since, we have been battling to keep her on her feet. because that lupus makes her very very uncomfortable and we have to go to the hospital,” Idada said.

“Even as of today, she is in the hospital, in the dialysis room. She is on dialysis because the doctors tried but they couldn’t save her kidney.

“Yesterday morning, overnight, she had a terrible headache, she wept throughout the night.

“We appeal to Nigerians to give us financial assistance to get Ebun back on her feet and so she could return to school and complete her education.”

According to a Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Transparency and Good Governance, the agitation led by Nnamdi Kanu and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) will be worse than Boko Haram's if not urgently tackled.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, the National Coordinator of the Coalition, Patriot Sabo Ode likened Nnamdi Kanu to Abubakar Shekau, head of the Boko Haram group.

He also recalled that

Kanu had declared ‘Biafra Republic’ same as Shekau declared an Islamic Caliphate;
Kanu called Nigerians animals while Shekau called them infidels.
Both men promised to deliver the heads of Nigerian Presidents to their declared enclaves;
IPOB and Boko Haram adopted flags other than the green-white-green;
they formed cabinets;
they radicalised youths,
they called for attacks on Nigeria and Nigerians;
they both declared the Nigerian military as their enemy.

Former Nigerian Senator, Mohammed Kabiru Jibril is dead.

Senator Jubril was elected to represent the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the Kaduna Central district of Kaduna State in April 2007

Mohammed Kabiru Jibril was born on 18 May 1958.

Prior to election to the senate, he was the National Legal Advisor and National Secretary, North-West Zone for the PDP.

Viviann Gist recalls that Jibril was elected to the National Senate for the Kaduna Central constituency in 2007 and was appointed to committees on Solid Minerals, Security & Intelligence, Police Affairs, Interior Affairs, Gas and Air Force.

The current Kaduna senator, Shehu Sani in a post on Facebook said :”I Received the sad news of the passing away of Senator Muhammad Kabir Jubril.

The Lagos state police command, after weeks of intensive manhunt, has arrested one Ismaila  Adeyemi 'm' aged 49yrs, the suspected mastermind and killer of Hector Jobateh  (the 2007 winner of Gulder Ultimate search) who was traced and shot dead at his residence at New Oko-Oba in Agege area of Lagos State.

The suspect who was arrested at gas line Ominiyi in Ijoko area of Ogun state, confessed to the crime and other numerous crimes, while other members of his gang have been arrested. 
The suspects will be charged to court after investigation is concluded. 

The command wishes to reinstate it's commitment in partnership with members of the public and urge them to always come forward with useful information that would assist the police in discharging their duties.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) suspended its five-week long strike on Monday.

This was after ASUU President Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi told reporters Monday night that they decided to conditionally suspend the strike in view of the timeline of October for the implementation of the signed agreement with the government.  The meeting was a long one with the Federal Government delegation, led by Minister of Labour and Employment Dr. Chris Ngige.

Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi assured the public that the union would not hesitate to resume the suspended action should the government renege on the newly signed agreement, which he called Memorandum of Action.

Here are the five demands requested by the Association:

Areas of agreement include funding for revitalization of public universities and the issue of Earned Academic Allowances;

The issue of University Staff Schools;

The implementation of the judgment of the National Industrial Court, National Universities Pension Management Company and guidelines for pension matters for professors;

The exemption offered by the government regarding the issue of TSA, which included the issue of grants, endowment funds as well as salary shortfall, which is already being implemented by the government;

The union also promised to submit a position paper to the Federal Government on their observation with a view for government to advise state governments.

IPOB has released a video showing a military van chasing down IPOB members as part of the Operation Python Dance exercise currently ongoing in Abia state.
Several videos have been emerging from Abia state since military personnel were deployed to the state.

Some of the videos have been described as 'unreal' by the military.

The latest in such video has been released by IPOB showing a suspected military van chasing down IPOB members.

Meanwhile the Nigerian Army says the public should disregard information credited to Abia governor and GOC 82 Division, Enugu, that soldiers would be gradually withdrawn from Aba and Umuahia on Friday.

The Nigerian Army on Thursday said it would continue Python Dance II (Egbu Eke 11) in the South East and extend it to Cross River.

Brig Gen. Sani Usman, Director, Army Public Relations, said this in a statement in Abuja.

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress has told the Women Affairs Minister, Aisha Alhassan that it can no longer trust her

The All Progressives Congress has denied asking Women Affairs Minister, Aisha Alhassan to resign over her recent comments on President Muhammadu Buhari.

The party also debunked reports that her appearance at the party’s National Secretariat, Abuja, on Thursday, follows a summon.

There were speculations after the end of the meeting, which lasted about two hours, that she has been asked to step down as minister.

But the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi said the party did not give her any condition.

Abdullahi said the minister had just a meeting with leadership of the party, but “was not asked to resign her position as may be speculated’’.

"No, that did not come up, what we said was that we understood the context in which she said what she said.

"But, it was an act of indiscretion for someone occupying the position she is occupying in the party to make that kind of statement,’’ he explained.

It was, however, gathered that leaders of the party present at Thursday’s meeting expressed shock and bitterness over the minister’s comment.

According to the source, the minister was told that the party can no longer trust her.

The minister has been in the eye-of-the-storm over her comments on her choice of presidential aspirant for the 2019 election.

She had reportedly said that she would support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar if he showed interest in the 2019 presidential race, explaining that the man is her “godfather”.

The comment drew the flak of APC stalwarts, who dubbed it anti-Buhari and anti-party, saying she was disloyal.

Two images flying across social media that are fake and deliberately shared to manipulate people’s minds regarding IPOB and the military action in Aba have been identified.

Yes, we know there is trouble in the southeastern part of Nigeria.

We know soldiers are on the streets of Aba and have been at loggerheads with members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

We also know Nnamdi Kanu has not backed down on his showdown with the Nigerian government, and the once peaceful streets of Aba, Onitsha, Enugu, Umuaiha and others are no longer at ease.

But what we also know at Vivian Gist is that many of the images flying across social media are fake and deliberately shared to manipulate people’s minds.

We have since realized that some Nigerians are only out to milk this situation to further cause chaos.

What is more worrisome is how many Nigerians are so gullible that they draw their daggers at each other before asking if what they saw on social media is authentic.

Here are some of the fake images we have seen this week of the Nigerian Army’s Operation Python and they have nothing to do with the Army-IPOB faceoff.

1. Biafra Rocket Missile

This was just released by a blog and it is so fake! There is nothing like that.

This was the creative burial ceremony of a staunch member of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) sometime in July 2017.



His kinsmen simply decided to build his coffin in the shape of a rocket and painted it in Biafra colours.

2. Burning of Hausa men

There is also this video being circulated on WhatsApp purportedly of IPOB members burning two Hausa men.

It is FALSE.

Renowned journalist, Kayode Ogundamisi who takes factchecking seriously tweeted about the video saying:

“Video does not have anything to do with the current crisis, it is a video of a mob lynching of alleged robbers. Close study of the video has multiple persons describing the activities of Armed Robbers, no reference to IPOB.”



Furthermore, no security agency has confirmed such an incident ever happened.

“When you receive any information, video, photos regarding current crisis, always fact check before sharing,” he added.
