OWO EPO

They came at that time.
Wolves who called themselves my friends and fans.

"Baba Agbaa. Double Twuale"
They said.
Stamping both feet on the ground with arms raised up high.
Running in frenzied speed to do all my little biddings.
Bowing down to me in a staged show of reverence and humility.

I felt loved then.
For their façade of love fooled me.
I felt special then
For their excessive show of loyalty lulled my suspicions into a deep sleep.

My guard fell and foolhardy set in.
I took them to the local bar.

"Crate Origin mefa ati igo star ogbon (six crates of origin and thirty bottles of star)

Aunty kill ten catfish dere and tell mallam say make im kill one goat and roast am sharp sharp"
I ordered.

"Yeeee. Baba Alaye. Who say your water no go boil, them no go see pot buy for their village"
They shouted.

Injecting a larger dosage of tramadol into the veins of my suspicions.
Injecting a huge dose of Red Bull into the veins of my ego.

They vigorously fanned my zeal to spend.
And boy did I spend!

The school fees of Mutius children I paid.
Even though I knew it was going to his mistress.

The hospital bills of Tades mother, I paid.
Even though I knew it was going to end up in a local bar around.

Fatai's pure water business startup money I paid for.

And Tunjis' sisters school fees I fully funded.

I felt alive after spending it all.
For I felt they would appreciate me for life.
The local Adedibu who they would gladly die for.

The bubble burst after two months.
The pool of wealth dried up after two draughts.
My pockets emptied after much spendings.

Then I turned to them.
Turned to the wolves who I had called my friends.
Waited for them at the local spots where we normally gathered.

"Kosilala. I nor get anything for you at all"
Tade said.

"Alaye jabo lori ago mi (Mr man stop calling my phone)"
Fatai said in a hoarse tone.

"Woss wobi kosi abi kini oruko re. Ma ti lo gun e ju ti o ba pe ago mi ni gba mi (look here. I will stab you if you ever call my line again)
Mutiu said.

I was devastated.
For man had failed me.
Beings prone to biting the hands that feeds them.
Species prone to quick memory loss when you need them.
Creatures prone to licking hands filled with Palmoil and not helping to heal bleeding hands.

The dice of luck landed in my favor again.
Fatai, Tade and Mutiu tried to come around again.

'Hehehehehe'.
Their charms failed woefully this time.
For my eyes "SHINE WELL WELL" like a lagosian.
And my money safe within tightly clenched fists like an Ijebu man.

Then, I knew.
Only God could be relied upon.
