YOUTHS LIVE ON HOPE, ELDERS LIVE ON REMEMBRANCE - Arthur Kelly.
At 27, Late Pa Anthony Enahoro made history for himself and his nation, Nigeria. He raised a motion at the lower chambers of the parliament in 1952, the motion ushered in Nigeria's Independence in 1960.
At 32, Yakubu Gowon took over the mantle of leadership in 1966 as the Military Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and ruled the country under a chaotic atmosphere of Civil War which lasted for 30months; he made history for himself and history for his nation for 8years.
At 33, Late Odumegwu Ojukwu, the then Military Governor of the Eastern Nigeria stood against injustice and declared war against Federal Government of Nigeria, he made history for himself and his nation.
At 28, Late Murtala Muhammed took over from Yakubu Gowon and reigned for 6months as Nigeria Head of State before meeting his waterloo in the hands of yet another aggressive military coup led by Buka Suka Dimka.
At 29, OBJ succeeded Murtala Muhammed and ruled the country as Military Head of State until he conducted elections that ushered in a Civil regime in 1979; he made history for himself and his nation.
Awolowo was 37 years, Akintola 36, Ahmadu Bello 36, Balewa 34, Okotie-Eboh 27 and they led the struggle for Nigeria Independence after the death of Macaulay. Zik was 42. In 1966, the first military coup was led by K Nzeogwu who was 29 years and countered by M. Mohammed 28, T. Danjuma 28, I. Babangida 25, J. Garba 23, Sani Abacha 23, and M. Yar'adua 23, and brought into power and Buhari 24. Most of the military governors who governed the states under the successive military regimes were under 30 years.
The brief democratic dispensation which interjected the military interregnums also saw some Senators and Members of the House of Representatives, in particular, populated by persons under 30!
Under 30's were also not in short supply with appointments; MT Mbu was Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Minister at 23 and Pat Utomi was a Federal Adviser at 27.
The list is endless of young Nigerian Youths who came to limelight at the prime of their youth and made history for themselves and for their nation.
Why is it that this age bracket today still 'sagg' their trousers?
Why is it that this age bracket is today barred from even aspiring to certain political offices?
In the light of restoring the lost glory of this nation,
I have proposed for a 2month Reality TV Show as part of my Advocacy Communication Campaign on Ethical, Attitudinal and Behavioural Re-Orientation and an Optimistic Revolution on Nigerian Youths' full participation in Politics and Governance in Nigeria.
