Sahara reporter founder Omoyele Sowore, was interviewed by two correspondents of TVC news to know their reasons for hovering into Dino Melaye's case and still doesn't believe in the confirmation made by Ahmadu Bello University Vice Chancellor. Interviewer: The Vice Chancellor of A.B.U has come out to say Dino actually graduated from Ahmadu Bello University in year 2000 but you still do not believe what the VC has said is actually true according to your social media comments. Is the VC’s confirmation not enough to call off these speculations?
Omoyele: Number of exam officers and whistle blowers from the department of geography A.B.U Zaria approached us last year. They told us first that the person named Dino did not graduate from their university and the person who supposedly graduated is one Daniel Jonah Melaye and by their own records, he never graduated from the department and his graduation was aided by his unscrupulous HOD in his department. We later reported it to the Department of State Security (DSS) and the director general of the DSS invited these whistle blowers to Abuja and they show them the discrepancies that he did not pass some requirements in order to graduate. Our contact in the DSS later got back to us that they have confirmed that Dino did not graduate the way he should have graduated after their investigations. But DSS would not let the public know because of political expediencies. And that is why we decided to release these a few days ago.
Interviewer: Looking at ABU being a first generation university with a strong reputation to protect, do you think the VC would put his name and institution on the line if Dino did not graduate from the school?
Omoyele: I didn’t know what happen to the VC. The educational system in Nigeria has been destroyed by greed and corruption. As you are aware, at least 3 Vice Chancellors are undergoing trials for corruption, stealing, public embezzlement and money laundering. The university system has been destroyed. People who go to school these days can get forged papers to get admission after not doing well in school and then graduate into society with the connivance of the school authorities. If you follow the hearing, the VC was not even allowed to drop any document.
Interviewer: So are you insinuating the word of the sources at the department of Geography over that of the Vice Chancellor’s?
Omoyele: I’ve just told you that we are dealing with whistle blowers. In other part of the world when you want to investigate the matter of this gravity, you just don’t bring only the VC. You should check out how the United State Senate investigates. They’d bring the Vice Chancellor, registrar, the DG of NYSC and various departmental heads because an opportunity like this should have been used to correct this type of ill within our educational system. It didn’t take us more than 30seconds to get Harvard to reveal Dino’s link for a week seminar whereas he claimed he graduated. It took us less than 2 hours to get London School of Economics to respond to the e-mail enquiry to ask if Dino graduated there. But it is the Nigerian factor that crept in. They presented no evidence to show to us. They just went there to perform chorography. It is just very shameful.
Interviewer: Some people insinuate about revelations of Ibrahim Magu who wasn’t confirmed as EFCC boss and the spat with CG of customs Ahmed Ali looks like a witch-haunt. How would you respond to this?
Omoyele: You know I am not a member of any of those government agencies. Sahara reporters has done a lot of work to reveal corruption………………… (Watch the video to see it all. I am tired of typing.)
