There are two ways to it:

1) Technically they are not the same, the one that uses a condom releases his sperm while still inside the vagina, but gets 0% skin-to-skin pleasure while the one that doesn't use condom releases his sperm outside the vagina but gets 90% skin-to-skin pleasure.

2) technically they are the same because the sperm does not fertilize the woman.

As to whether Onanism (coitus interruptus) is a sin depends on which side of the law you are.

God killed Onan because he disobeyed him, not because he practiced coitus interruptus. If he had outrightly refused to sleep with her, he would have been killed anyways.

He was enjoying having sex with his late brother's wife but pulling out
so as not to father a child that will not only have his brother's name
but also get to inherit his late brother's land and/or estate
