Ways Other States In Nigeria Can Help Major Cities Curb Unemployment by Judithjovial(f): 12:40pm On Apr 03, 2017
Are you tired of running to Lagos for Employment? How to curb employment excesses in major cities
Employment excesses in Major cities: The alarming rate of unemployment in Nigeria has become so disheartening hence the exodus of able bodied young men and women from the country which in the long run might lead to a serious decline in the productive strength of our great nation. Employment opportunities in Nigeria are so small or meager that it is not even enough for the thronging mass of graduates that flood the labour market every year. Now the question is; why does the few available job vacancies have to be situated only in major cities like Lagos, Abuja, Porthacourt, Calabar, etc. why not evenly move this employment vacancies to other less developed cities like Ebonyi ,Abia , Adamawa, Gombe states and even the all mighty Akwa-ibom state that we all know is an oil producing state, infact the highest oil producing state as at 2015.There has been problems arising from the creation or distribution of job quotas in Nigeria more especially the existence of ghost jobs which don’t even exist or the distribution of this jobs to the relatives of the crème de la crème of the society, having had a personal experience of this social vice, I therefore recommend ways in which available job opportunities can be evenly distributed in all the states of Nigeria.

1. Infrastructures (roads): personally I think that good infrastructures are harbingers of development. Once the governments of our various states starts fulfilling their campaign promises of constructing good quality roads and various other infrastructures, then and only then would acknowledgeable developments start coming into the country cause bad roads scare away foreign investors but I believe that would change in no time cause our governors have started adhering to their campaign promises by engaging in various massive infrastructural developments most applaud worthy the recent roads constructions carried out by G0v.Umahi of Ebonyi State and Dr. Okezue Ikeazu of Abia state more especially the Collaboration of the federal government and Abia state government in the production of “made in aba goods” and the “Ebonyi rice world ”project of Gov Umahi. These are examples other state governors should imbibe for a rapid development hence job creation.
2. Security: According to www..com, Nigeria ranked 5th in world insecurity which is a major scare to foreign investors as they are major employers of labour in Nigeria. The issue of Boko-haram,Niger-Delta Militants,Niger-Delta Avengers, etc have created a serious backwardness to Nigerian economy as inspiring foreign investors are deterred from opening different companies in other states apart from Lagos,Abuja, etc so I think if these insurgency activies can be curbed, then Nigeria can finally have a breathe of fresh air in its industrial sector.
3. `Tribalism:Now,America did not transform into the great country it was today because it acknowledged certain group or tribe as its particular citizens therebyinsisting that its economic strength must come from this group of people but it is what it is today because it embraced all races and tribes. Coming down home in Nigeria,Lagos did not become the commercial pivot in Nigeria because it welcomed only its indigenes in the industrial and economic development of its state but because it welcomed and provided room for all the races and tribes in Nigeria to contribute to its economic and industrial sector thereby developing its state hence what it is today. If the governments of our various states can imbibe these techniques in developing our states rather than just been indigene minded, then I think development and employment opportunities would be forthcoming, take for example Akwa-ibom state which exercises the indigene status to its full core therby hindering development, another are the different northern states in Nigeria that doesn’t accommodate Igbos in its industrial sector, this factor has been a major reason for lack of employment in these states
4. Individual Entrepreneurship Acumen:Nigerian graduates always have that notion that there must be a white-collar job waiting for them somewhere even if they have to spend years to look for it,you can find someone who graduated for years maybe a blogger, hairstylist, makeup artist, etc instead of him/her concentrating on that entrepreneur work of his, you wil still find him/her looking out for a white collar job.Now my question is,why wont the person concentrate on that entrepreneurship skill and see if he/she can expand it so he can turn out to be an employer of labour thereby providing employment, dats my thought though.
5. Loans: Again, this particular topic is inexustible, loans are never assesible to average Nigerians, banks and other financial institutions (Loan Sharks) always present huge interest rates to average individuals seeking for loans which obviously they cant afford. I feel that if the interest to these loans are actually normal and assesible, then people can have assess to them and actually invest in their own state state thereby creating employment.
