The agitation for a sovereign state of Biafra seems to be growing stronger. These agitations are championed by a group known as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and a sizable number of ethnic Igbo youths who go on the internet to share their opinions on their continued relationship with the rest of Nigeria. Their demands are simple; they want an independent state of Biafra mainly because they believe the rest of Nigeria is slowing down their development. Unfortunately, the independence of Biafra is based largely on factors outside the control of even the agitators.

1. They need to convince the rest of Nigeria to let them go
The conundrum is the Biafran’s wants the oil rich Niger-Delta to be a part of their country, while the rest of Nigeria cannot survive without oil revenue from the South. Without oil revenue, states like Osun and Kebbi State in the north will be unable to pay workers salaries and provide basic services like health and education. Convincing the rest of Nigeria to give up oil revenue will be quit a task.

2. Vague geographical location:
To have a country, you will need an exact geographical territory. As it stands, even the leaders of the movement do not have a definite territory in mind. Some have suggested that perhaps the oil rich Niger-Delta should be part of their country others want an alliance with the middle-belt minority Christians. The agitators just do not have a definite map in mind.

3. The rich and famous Igbo’s don’t support Biafra:
The reason is simple; the probability of success is very slim. In Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial center, there are a lot of successful Igbo traders who wouldn’t want to find out what will happen to their businesses when they are no longer Nigerians.

4. The call for Biafra is not exactly honorable:
The current agitation led by Nnamdi Kanu started shortly after the 2015 general election in which majority of Igbo’s supported the then incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan. Before the election, Nnamdi Kanu was virtually non-existent and it could be argued that it was Goodluck Jonathan’s loss at the polls that led to the current agitation. Where is the honor in that?

5. They have no international support:
On the continent, no African country will be bold enough to meddle in Nigeria’s internal politics. France and The UK have already declared they won’t be supporting the actualization of Biafra; the Americans are traditional allies and supporters of one Nigeria. These leave them with only Russia and China as possible supporters; not unlikely, but not enough.

6. Biafra will be same old wine in a new bottle:
Over 521 languages are spoken in present day Nigeria by about 300 ethnic groups. Biafra if created will still be as diverse as Nigeria with the same corrupt politicians and similar social problems. What will be worse is a lot of ethnic groups won’t want to be minorities to the Igbo’s.

7. There is no actual oppression or marginalization of the Igbos:
Before his arrest and eventual detention by the Nigerian State, Nnamdi Kanu on his Radio Biafra would go on and on about how the Igbos are being politically marginalized and oppressed, and how they would thrive in an independent Biafra. Reality check is a lot of the Igbo traders in Lagos would disagree with that assertion. Politically: the current Deputy Senate President of Nigeria is of Igbo ethnic extraction, the current Minister of Petroleum is Igbo. Within the last 17 years the Igbos have produce a Senate President, several Ambassadors and top government officials; the Igbos are simply a force to reckon with in Nigeria’s politics.

Those agitating for an independent state of Biafra have started on a path, but they still have great a many miles to go.

Point 7 speaks the ideology of an average igbo mind which stems from the fact that they cry wolf about been marginalised for too long. Ask them to produce a suitable candidate for president and you will see thousands of them raising their hands. Since independence, they have notable key roles in Nigeria politics as president, VP, senate president, Deputy senate president, etc. Abeg in what way have they been marginalised?

Igbos are actually rapping them thoroughly right now with other nigerians using the bad system instituted by the zoo government, but they have a chance to change that. Biafra is giving them opportunity to have their consent in the formation of a constitution, something they never had with the zoo

I laugh when I see my Western brothers try so... hard to convince Igbos that Biafra is just an illusion. Yet Biafra has been making headlines from 1970 till now, We've gotten more people that believe our struggle over time.
Will the Niger Delta help Nigeria in fighting Biafra, that's a No for them, will the Middle belt man fight for Nigeria No!.
Nigeria have not improved on any part since her independent.

The political and economic realities of today have forced countries in different continents of the world to redefine and renegotiate their unions which gave birth to new nations. As humankind continue to evolve so do adjustments of boundaries should be allowed to continue to take place.
African countries were put together by strangers (Europeans) who knew nothing or very little about the differences that exist among Africans. It is not like they did not notice the differences but they were merely interested in their economic interest hence their putting together different group of people just to achieve their selfish interest. Several conflicts among African nations have shown that the unions put together by foreign invaders to serve their economic interest are no longer sustainable. The reason for creating a country is to better the lives of the inhabitants but when the union becomes a scourge to those it is to benefit, then there is a need to revisit such union and effect the necessary adjustments to meet the aim of having a country.
The fact that Igbos want to exit Nigeria does mean Nigeria will seize to exist, other Nigerians that love one Nigeria so much can still work to make it great. The worst disservice those who love Nigeria so much will offer Nigeria is by-force-unity. You cannot force somebody to live with you and get the best out of the person. If Igbo should remain in Nigeria it has to be by agreement not by force, as by force unity is slavery. Our people should be allowed to freely decide whether they want to remain in Nigeria or to exit Nigeria, that is the logical and reasonable thing to do to save Nigeria by those who love her so much.
Our people are becoming aware of their environment on daily basis which is fast destroying the lies that hold Nigerian captive for so long. Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder, a lot of things that were thought impossible in Nigeria are beginning to happen. Before now we were told a Nigerian can never wear a bomb vest to blow himself up but it happened right before our eyes. Before now other Nigerians thought an Igboman will never close his shop for whatever but right under our nose we witnessed as they closed their shops for weeks to protest. Before now we were told Nigerians can never commit suicide because of hardship as they are perceived to be resilient in nature but when Nigerians were stretched far beyond their elastic limits the unthinkable started to happen and we are seeing our very own committing suicide left and right in different forms because of hardship. We should understand it is human nature to think and do the unthinkable when pushed to the wall. There is still time to save ourselves from the most dangerous unthinkable that is waiting to happen. Whether we like it or not Nigeria is a time bomb that will explode in no distant time.
We have witnessed the dissolution of most powerful and civilized nations of the world. That you do not want to hear about disintegration doesn't mean it won't happen, it's better we face reality and prepare for the inevitable. If Europe was able to redrew her map along homogeneous boundaries, nothing will stop Africa from doing same to experience growth and developments. Stop sitting on the fence, stand up to be counted for it is your future and that of your generations to come.

same way igbos are useless and lazy and want to still wat belongs to everybody.
Crude oil does not belong to everybody, it belong to those on whose land it is found. Igbos do not want to still steal it, Igbos want oil taxes to be paid to state or local governments or any other governments formed by the people and closer to the people and not some feudal lords in Abuja. Igbos themselves have oil in abundance and other resources but the "exclusive federal list" has tied their hand since the feudal lords in Abuja decides which one is to be explored, thereby wasting scarce resources in borno while abundant oil and gas field remain untapped in Abia, Imo, and anambra. I can go on and on my brother but let me stop here, and wait for another dumb line from you
