A 36-year-old man, Okoro Sunday was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly raping his 17-year-old daughter. Sunday was arraigned on a five-count charge of rape, assault, breach of peace, sexual harassment and attempted murder.



Testifying against Sunday, the prosecutor, Sergeant Ajayi Emmanuel told the court that the accused had on March 28 2017 at his residence in Mushin area of the state forcefully had carnal knowledge of his daughter.
The prosecutor said Sunday on the said date lured his daughter to the bathroom where he had sexual intercourse with her.

Emmanuel quoted the girl as saying her father “deflowered her.”

According to Emmanuel, the girl narrated everything that happened that day to her mother when she returned from work.

Emmanuel said, “The woman confronted her husband with the allegation, but he pounced on her and used a piston to hit her forehead, which caused her head injuries.

“The accused also beat the victim’s siblings after they confronted him and rained abuses on him when they heard about the incident.

“The case was reported to the police by wife of the accused.’’

Emmanuel said that the offences was contrary to Sections 137, 166, 171, 228 and 267 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty.

Following his not guilty plea, the Magistrate, E.A. Azeez, granted Sunday bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Azeez, consequently adjourned the matter till May 10 for trial.

How do we stop this kind of acts, it sadden my heart when this evil act is been committed by the same people that were suppose to defend the victims.
