I agree they're missing out but he should at least put a spoiler warning so that anime onlies know what is ahead then they can choose whether to see it or skip, getting unexpected spoilers is not a pleasant experience.

The anime itself may not be similar, but the MC is tho, at least tjat was quite obvious When I saw the trailer back then..., was like the MC was basically Korra... Right down to the gayness
