AN OPEN LETTER TO THE MANAGEMENT OF JOS ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION (JED), IN CHARGE OF GOMBE STATE

I am writing this with uttermost pain in my heart for Gombe State to be under your so-called company for power services. We all know of the epileptic power supply in Nigeria but it is just of recent under the JED PLC that Gombe State have been experiencing what I can describe as a an epileptic power supply as the result of recklessness and deprivation by JED Plc.

It would be recalled that, during the privatization process, Nigerians were all happy hoping to have stable and affordable power supply in Nigeria and Gombe State in particular not knowing that we are going to experience the worst epileptic and the most expensive power supply in the history of Gombe State.

Before the coming of your Company, Gombe State was one of the best state in terms of power Supply, we are incomparably with many State in Nigeria. When your so-called company landed in Gombe State, we were expecting a power company that will be more efficient than any other power company in Nigeria, best on your adverts. But unfortunately, you are the worst and poorest power Company in Nigeria.

Gombe State under JED's control is just an old wine in new wineskin. You are just treating us by using alzheimer's formula... As you have totally deprived us from getting the right power services while always sending us an unaffordable bills to pay for what we have never consumed.

Ever since You have become the power distributor company to Gombe State, we have never experienced good power supply and we are still silent never raised an alarm about your notorious act, but things are getting worst and out of hand and you will never have us mute again. The worst thing is that, you bring the bill every month and it has now become your norms that you only make the power somehow stable every month (epileptic of course) while your people are distributing bills. Another annoying thing is that Jos and Bauchi that are under your control are not under same fate. Their power is more stable than Gombe State.

Another disturbing and unwelcome thing is this your so-called "prepaid meter". This meter is nothing but the deprivation and exploitation of the masses. It is another way of making things difficult for the masses in Gombe State. It has no value to the people of Gombe State, it is another way of more bill consuming, most of the people are complaining about it, even those that are living in GRA and Federal Low Cost are complaining about how the "meter" is consuming the recharge, with or without power, you must consume at least N16, 000 each and every month (that's if you are not using all your electrical appliances).

It is also comes to the notice of the people of Gombe State, that the so-called "prepaid meter" isn't the one approved by the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA).

It is in this sense, that I am writing this letter to call the attention of JED management, in charge of Gombe State and all other authorities concerned to act quickly before things get out of hand because People are now onlooking and one day after knowing they are left facing the wall, we shall all pounce on you and I so sure any public defender will be glad to take up this case.

Signed

Abu-Ubaidah Ibrahim Kuna
Concerned Citizen of Gombe State
