Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan in Jema’a local government area of Kaduna State, has blamed the killings in Southern Kaduna on Governor Nasir El-Rufai. They accused him of taking sides with the suspected killer Fulani herdsmen. Bishop of Kafanchan Diocese, Most Revd. Dr. Joseph Danlami Bagobiri said this in a terse statement issued on behalf of the church.

2. Report says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Tuesday, searched the apartments of the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi and a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, as part of investigations into the $43.4m, £27,000 and N23m (N13bn) found at a flat in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, last week.

3. Real Madrid are through to the semi-finals of this year’s Champions League, after they defeated Bayern Munich 4-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu, in the second leg of their quarter-final tie. Cristiano Ronaldo stole the moment with his hat-trick.

4. The Edo State Police Command said it has arrested some lecturers of the Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma for their alleged involvement in cult-related activities. The Commissioner of Police, Haliru Gwandu, told journalists in Benin on Tuesday that firearms were recovered from the arrested suspects. Gwandu said that a double-barrel gun, single-barrel gun and one pump action gun were allegedly recovered from a professor.

5. The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was not managing the controversy surrounding the $43million recovered from an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos very well. He said the EFCC had a duty to inform Nigerians who the money belonged to. The Senate President said the whole confusion surrounding the recovered money, was not good for Nigeria’s image and warned that the National Assembly might soon get involved.

6. The Lagos State Government has said it will soon take decision on the possible execution of the General Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, also known as Rev King and other prison inmates currently on death row. This was disclosed by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem during a press conference in the state.

7. The traditional ruler of Iyani-Akoko, in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oniyani of Iyani Akoko, Oba Joel Sunday Daodu, who was abducted last Saturday, has regained his freedom. The monarch arrived his palace 8pm Tuesday in company of his two colleagues, Olubaram of Ibaram, Oba Olusegun Atibioke and the Owa of Ogbagi-Akoko, Oba Victor Olasehinde.

8. The Nigerian economy is out of recession and growing strong; a United Kingdom-based World Economics has said. The organisation, which produces analysis, insight and data relating to questions of importance in understanding the world economy, said this development was reflected in the growth of its April Sales Managers’ Index, SMI, for Nigeria, which rose to 58.5 per cent from 56.7 per cent in March.

9. The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi has banned the consumption of Coke, Sprite and Fanta at government functions in the state. The ban follows reports alleging that some soft drinks could be dangerous to health. The governor gave the order during a meeting with traditional rulers and town union executives in the state.

10. The Naira bounced back against the dollar at the parallel market on Tuesday, closing at N398 to the dollar. The currency appreciated from the N410 it posted at the segment on Friday. The Nigerian currency traded at N497 and N430 to the pound sterling and Euro, respectively.
