Incandescent bulbs need to be put out of circulation but they're still being used in 90% of homes in Nigeria because they are relatively cheap. Subsidizing the price of LED bulbs will go a long way in helping out. 2 Likes |

TalkElectricNG: This is quite wrong. All LED Tvs are also LCD Tvs. The LED (Light Emitting Diode) refers to the type of backlighting technology. Non-LED LCD Tvs have fluorescent backlighting which is not as energy efficient as LED. LCD refers to the Liquid Crystal Display technology used in the display panel. In terms of energy efficiency , OLED Tvs are better, as they are self-illuminating (they illuminate individual pixels using organic materials and hence need no backlighting at all). 2 Likes 1 Share |

Go solar period! Power companies in Nigeria are a complete rip-off. Those who constructed the energy bill are not only illiterates but a national disgrace....we use a fraudulent card system that allows energy companies to milk us even without power supply.....solution get off the grid! This is more for those who are building a new house...make do with solar roofing sheets. |

2shure: Do you know that the electricity you are stealing is being paid by your fellow Nigerian through estimated billing. This is one of the reasons why the electricity distribution companies dont want to distribute prepaid meters. The electricity from the generating companies to the discos are metered and the disscos have to pay complete for it. Why not simply manage the electricity you are able to afford and in that way saving electricity that someone else can use. |

bettyLad:But that is the reality, it like recharging your phone with 1000 and want to use 2000 worth of talktime, I have a prepaid meter and honestly I am not finding it funny too, but I have to start adjusting to live with it. I hardly put on my external lights these days and even when I do, I switch the off as soon as the day breaks. I switch off my freezer when it is frozen etc. |

TalkElectricNG: That's right, but the rate at which you guys deal with people, especially low income earners, making them pay for darkness, sending mannerless marketing teams all over the place and raising people's bills arbitrarily is the reason they're getting fraudulent with you. I was in one of ur offices to check if my prepaid meter was ready sometime ago. And I was overhearing an old pensioner petitioning and pleading with your Customer Desk ladies as per coming over to his 2bedroom bungalow to assess his consumption before billing him. How do you explain N11,000/month for a 2bedroom house with the major appliance being just a TV; he had no fridge, freezer, a/c, microwave or water-heaters? How manage? Prepaid Meters are really a great help but i'm your management also would engage in 'tweaking' those ones one ocassion to meet targets once you're not successful in dumping your revenue shortfalls on poor estimated-billing users. Go check the Rural areas, suburbs and shanty-towns of the North; you'll still find that practice of 6/7/8 houses 'tapping' light from one house. Y'all have a long way to go, indeed Nigeria does, if it will don't crack it open like a palm-kernel and go our separate ways first, of course! |
