Suspected gunmen have killed two policemen and injured another along with a resident during a shoot-out in Tungan Maje, an Abuja suburb. City News learnt that the policemen were in their patrol vehicle on the Gwagwalada-Zuba-Kaduna road when the yet to be identified gunmen opened fire on them.
A resident who would not want to be named said two policemen died on the spot while another sustained serious injury.
The source said a water vendor near the pedestrian bridge was also shot, adding that he was taken to a private hospital in the area.
A source at the private hospital confirmed that he was recuperating, though our reporter was denied access to him.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said police operatives on duty at Tunga Maje had a fierce gun battle with some hoodlums who escaped the scene with wounds, “leaving two casualties on the part of the police.”
Reacting to the incident, the commissioner of police who personally visited the scene has ordered massive man-hunt to track down the assailants,” he said.
