The national president of Rahmat Islamiyya Association of Nigeria and the entire members of the association have described the action of Farouk Mutallab, a young Nigerian who attempted to bring down a plane carrying 278 passengers in the USA as an embarrassment to the Muslim community in Nigeria.

According to the body, it was a particularly sad event to the Muslim community in Nigeria, 99 per cent of whom are good-natured and non-extremists in the practice of their faith.

The association, in a statement signed by its general secretary, Mr. Kamar Hassan, said there was no justification whatsoever for the act, adding that it was only the grace of God on the innocent souls on board the plane that averted the catastrophe.

“Particular note should be made of what could have happened to the two little girls being adopted from Ethiopia by a good-natured American. It showed that only the grace of God saved that catastrophe in the making,” the statement said.
