Gossip can be defined as an idle talk about some certain people private lives which may not be unfair.
In Genesis 3 v 1-6, The woman had time to allow the serpent engage her with such idle talk, we know the outcome. It was disastrous, she even convince her husband who later partake in the sin and both of them got punished.
The question is why didn't the serpent had approached Adam, why Eve. After all Adam was there before Eve, though the Bible didn't tell us how long, but he existed long before Eve. The devil knew Adam wouldn't have had time for such conversation, he would have disagreed, so he went through Eve, because women generally like to talk.
Also at home, cases have shown that women talk more. It is their field of specialisation, that is why any man who engages his wife in exchange of words about their different family back ground or affairs would end up beating the wife. Because surely, she would say what he wouldn't like to hear.
In the market place, women gossip the more. A man in his place of work is thinking of how much he can gather to take home for the upkeep of his wife and children, while the woman on the other hand, who has less responsibility at home know that whether she sells or not, her man will bring back money for the family. So she is relax to gist with her friends and anybody she chooses to, knowing her man is out there working for her and the children.
It has also been argued that men are too busy to gather together to discuss about another person unless such discussion is about business but the women folk can gossip for Africa. It is easy to see women gather together from morning till night gossiping (such gossip is not even linked to business). But men are busy working… finding means to provide for their family; they (men) don't have time for gossiping.

funny but that's the fact, when a woman dies, her stomach goes in, y? because she has talked everything out, but mans own comes out because he buried all gossip inside himself.
Men don't have time for that, ladies rearly sit without gossiping
