Govt. should focus on strengthening all existing law enforcement agencies before creating new ones. The ordinary Nigerian Police is physically and mentally ill equipped. They should be given regular training.

I read through the comments and i just laugh. Let's learn to find out fact before saying rubbish.
1. It was stepped down becus of the crisis between police and Amb. Akoh (Not peace corps and moreover Saraki said the reason for steeping it down has nothing to do with the court case).

2. Those that are after genuine information knows that NUPEC (which David Mark is supporting) are fighting hard to be added to the Peace Corps which they are yet to have their way. as a result of this, they (NUPEC) are frustrating the passage of the bill.

3. NUPEC only got to Senate without passing through Rep, and as a result of this, the Rep are saying there is nothing like NUPEC. to solve this problem, Senate committee on Judiciary are asked to meet with House of Rep in order to know what is really wrong.

4. In doing this, NUPEC will automatically be scrapped out (Oh sorry for those that bought their form and their ranks)

5. Judiciary are to feed the house back in two weeks time.

6. To all the enemies, the bill as passed through all processes that may disqualify it, all that is needed is adoption which is just a matter of time.

7. Advice, for the fact that you are not part of them, doesn't mean that you should be against the hope of another fellow. no amount of security personnel is enough to secure a nation. we all can't be an entrepreneur so don't expect everybody to be what is not possible.

As for me, i've started the journey with peace corps, i know it's only for a while, we shall overcome and by then i can leave this underemployed job that can't take me home (just like many of you).

Truth has been a weapon less used in our world of media combat and communication. Dissemination of ill interpreted information has taken the place of true journalism. It has reached a neck braking point where facts of a matter are translated into falsehood and sugarcoated with acclaimed logic and reasoning.
What transpired at the level of the Senate and the interpretation given, is a clear evidence of how detractors have painstakingly set their minds on destroying the over 18 years of Peace Advocacy, Youth Emancipation and Nation Building operations of the Peace Corps of Nigeria. It is now alarming the extent to which several arms are using the media and online platforms to sell untrue stories.
Is there anything wrong with following media handles of the National Assembly to get direct information or will it hurt to simply follow the tweeter handle of the Senate where near real time transmission of in-house chamber proceedings are being reeled out?
Today, the Nigerian Senate did not drop the Bill for an Act to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps. The Bill had already passed through 1st, 2nd, public hearing and eventual 3rd Reading while waiting adoption.
Similar to what happened a week ago, the adoption was stepped down (not dropped) because the Chairman, Senate Committee on Interior, Sen. Bayero Nafada was unavoidably absent from the proceedings. This time, the deliberation of the hallowed chamber considered the allegations leveled by the Nigeria Police via the 90 count charge and felt a review before the adoption and eventual transmission to Mr. President, would go a long way to clear the name of the Corps or otherwise. They thus referred the matter to the Committee on Judiciary.
How does the above deliberation balance or correlate with Peace Corps of Nigeria Bill being dropped? Who shattered the dreams of Peace Corps of Nigeria? How has Peace Corps of Nigeria failed? How?
We advocate for truth even in a world where no news as bad news sell. We will not match propaganda for propaganda; cards of detriment for news of blacklisting or words of sell out with blackmail - NO! We will not do so for we are a people on a mission with a vision. Let the sun shine; let the heat burn but sooner than not, the cool air will blow and the will and prayers of the Nigerian youth will come to pass. We pray for the law to have its course for in it, we see clean bill of health passed on the Corps as her vindication. PEACE CORPS OF NIGERIA shall surely translate to the NIGERIAN PEACE CORPS! This is the most noble, evident and realistic thing to be....

For once, they took a reasonable decision. Apart from the corruption allegations, it was an unnecessary adventure that the president would not even assent to. We have more than enough security agencies in the country and there is absolutely no need for government to take over the peace corp. It will only add to the already high cost of running government and nothing else.

Really?
What's the total strength of the Armed forces put together?
Add the paramilitary agencies are they up to 200k? That's even too big. Are they up to 150k?
What about the reserve? Do we have any?

A country where you have a work force at the federal level of less than 83k. All agencies, military and paramilitary including ghost workers is not up to 300k to service over 160million people.

And you dare say overhead cost?

We should have a minimum of 1million service men in this country excluding reserve if we are to be heard in Africa at all. We can't even defeat Egypt or S.A should war break out tomorrow. And you are here talking trash. Walahi it is well.

If we need more men in the military and police, government should conduct recruitment exercise and bring in more hands. We don't need to create another agency to duplicate the duties of already existing agencies before we can address the issues you raised.

I can remember in 2003 I used to mock my friend in Nscdc as a volunteer, thinking he was wasting his time, now he earns 170k and I am unemployed.

So take a chill pill with chilled water, seat back, relax and watch d corps head to the promise land.

SENATE: PEACE CORPS YET TRIUMPH OVER MOUNTING CONSPIRACY AGAINST ITS LEGALITY

The Bill for an Act to give statutory backing to the already existing and functioning #PeaceCorpsofNigeria scale a major hurdle today as Senate refuses to stop its legislative business on the Bill despite pressure from some quarters. The Nigerian Senate turned down calls to stop the Bill. The resolution was reached during plenary after lawmakers in the Upper Chamber debated on the matter.

While few lawmakers were against continued legislative business on the Bill and wanted it to be stopped, Majority of the Senators at the plenary including the Senate Leader, Distinguished Senator Ahmed Lawan and the Senate President, His Excellency Senator Bukola Saraki all spoke in favour of the Bill. Senator James Manager of PDP Delta state stood against the Bill even as Senator John Enoh also of PDP strictly opposed him by pointing to the numerous benefits that awaits Nigerian youths after the passage of the Bill, he therefore supported the Bill and wants it passed immediately. "The Bill should be passed, it will serve as a means of employment for Nigerian youths," Senator Garba Binta submitted.

Meanwhile, the Senate Leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan raised a point of order and stated that the debate stages have passed hence, stopping the Bill is no longer an option. He however noted that the Bill could be delayed while the Senate is briefed properly by its Committee on Judiciary before the adoption of the Conference Committee Report.

On his part, the Senate President Senator Bukola Saraki said the Senate should implore proper guidelines and consider the status of the Bill in the Green chamber. The matter was referred to Judiciary committee and is expected to report back in two weeks for final consideration before transmitting to The President and Commander-in Chief of the Armed Forces for his assent.

Contrary to the erroneous reports by a section of the media that the Bill has suffered a set back during the Third Reading, it is important to note here that the Bill for an Act to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps has already scaled through the 1st, 2nd, public hearing and 3rd reading.
It would be recalled that both the Senate and House of Representatives laid the Report of the Conference Committee in January 2017, where the House adopted the Report, whereas the Senate postponed legislative action on the Report for another legislative day.

We urge all Officers and men of the Peace Corps of Nigeria and the general public to be abreast with the actual position of what transpired today at the Senate. Directing the Conference Committee Report to the Senate Committee on Judiciary is simply meant to unravel some of the few controversies raised during the deliberation including the current status of the Peace Corps of Nigeria.

I so much fall in Love with this organization, their aims and objectives are superb and if followed as stated it should be the best para military in Nigeria, but over the year i started lossing my hope and teust in the organization, not only because the followers have been blind to the right issue but because 90% of the states commandant and officials have become not onlu rude to the organization constitution but a cheat to humanity.
-you are told in the camp that u are not to get yourself involve in politics but do people no that even the National Commandant is a politician, my first clash with the organization then was when he was trying to contest for the National youth president in Ilorin, then i discover he has a motive to build a force not only 4 the country but for himself
-it has also been the same procedure each time, jobless youth are sweat talked to pay for everything and at the end some people benefit from this while others loss by
-then check the officers, d uniform is superb, training is real and teaching urthenthic but what have they become today, thugs, drunkerd, smokers, and the sinior officers or officials noe harrasses the junior ones or les privileged as if they are animals, commandant can just make up his mind and do anything to anyone.
-i have ask them this before, why not just make this organization a voluntary organization now, then when you can provide for people you then perform your duty, they promise people work that they cant give, a lot of people including the in officers dont even no that even if the flag funaly flies today they will be marged with another organization and its nit every officers that will be on government pay role.
My take home about this is that dough this organization is sopos to be the best but because of some selfish interest and cheat, because of the lies told and unjust care given to officers, this group might not serve the good model they are sopos to present, how do u maintain discipline whrn you arw not, if Nigeria youth have what to do i am sure this organization would have died a long time ago, but waitin we go do, GOD HELP US, a lot is hidden from people

The senators against the establishment of this bill into an act don't have children schooling in Nigeria, their children are in the best Schools abroad and jobs are waiting for them almost immediately. I do not dislike the senators, but I cry for their level of unpatriotic behavior.
