• To open its budget to public scrutiny

Owing to rising inflation and the depreciation of the naira, the National Assembly, which for years has faced criticism over the lack of transparency and accountability over its budget, has increased its 2017 budget in this year’s Appropriation Bill to N150 billion from the initial proposal of N120 billion.

This is just as the Appropriation Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives would Thursday lay the 2017 budget ahead of its consideration next week.

THISDAY gathered that the 2017 Appropriation Bill to be laid Thursday would include details of the appropriated expenditure (expenditure line items and sub-heads) of the National Assembly, in line with the promise made by its leadership to make public the details of its budget.

THISDAY, however, could not confirm if the federal government’s budget was increased, reduced or retained at N7.3 trillion as proposed by the executive.

A source in the Senate explained that the legislature had to increase its budget to N150 billion, as it could no longer deploy the pooled resources for services provided in the National Assembly.

I can't be in support of this because this is wickedness they cant increase 18k minimum wage but they can increase their own budget may God kill them and their families

Meanwhile minimum wage stays the same.

Nigeria is just suffering from bad government. Shameless set of people benefiting from a failed system they don't bother to repair.

But its a positive thing that one of the most naturally intelligent group of people on this earth are educating themselves everyday. So, the Nigerians of 2019 will be far wiser than the ones of yesteryears.

Right there lie our common enemies!

What these guys are simply telling us is "regardless of the state of the economy, we still have to live like we did in say 2012. Even if the country is earning 100naira per day, we don't bloody care, we still have to live like we were earning 1trillion. If inflation rises by 100%, gaddamn, raise our pay proportionately!!"

On the other side of the aisle lie ALL of us whose wage don't get a tweak until that time we are duly promoted!

Welcome to Nigeria.

When the rest of us were faced with recession we were asked to cut our coat but when the NASS is faced with recession they increase their budget by 30billion naira ...All Nigerian must reject this increase and makes sure the NASS also cuts it's expenses like the rest of us to reflect these austere times ..... Nigerians should occupy that useless NASS till they have sense ...It's time we scrap the useless National assembly and make it a volunteer assembly
