The purpose of creating this thread is to assist Nigerian youths, who are passionate about acquiring postgraduate education abroad, with reliable information. To achieve this aim, we would rely on the experiences of Nairalanders that are either studying abroad or have completed their programme there.

Let me introduce myself and state my career goals briefly.

I am T. Adedeji, a Physics graduate from the University of Ibadan. My overarching career goal is to become a competent research scientist in the nearest future.

To achieve this objective, I am working towards securing a scholarship from a top Saudi Arabian university for my master's degree. As of now, I have these three schools in mind: King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and King Saud University.

Like most other citadels of learning in various parts of the world, part of the requirements of these Saudi Arabian universities is that prospective international students should have a good score in TOEFL and/or GRE. So I will be seating for TOEFL in few months after solving the challenge I currently face with my international passport.

In our subsequent discussions, I will be sharing my findings so far about the scholarship programs of the above-mentioned universities. I also have a number of grey areas about pursuing a master's programme in a foreign university, which I need clarification on.

Well, it is actually easy I suppose.

There are so many scholarship opportunities

Whoever is interested in scholarships needs to have his/her ear to the ground.

www.studyandscholarships.com does the trick.

That aside, everyone must be aware that in Nigeria, there are a few govt. programs (although PMB has not been forthcoming so far)

The chevening as well as the commonwealth shared scholarship is also very fair. Fair in that everyone gets a fair chance.

If you are looking to go to the USA, there they have many schools that offer no scholarship but studentship. In that case, you first get your admission, then you could get a "job offer" in the school that pays well.

All in all, I can only advice you to stick to the link I just shared as they let you know all available scholarship offers for developing countries.

Nice one bro. I admire your ginger.

Btw, any particular reason you are targeting the middle east (saudi) for scholarship? Also are you sure, they give foreigners scholarships?? Try and find out tho.

As regards other scholarships, there are other options like chevening (i applied for that even and expecting reply after interview), then there is this European scholarship and then DAAD (germany).......infact check www.opportunitydesk.org daily!!

All the best.

The Saudi Arabian universities give scholarships to foreign students; I know few Nigerians who are studying there on scholarship.

My reason for choosing the schools is because I am a Muslim. I will also research about schools in other countries to increase my chances of getting a full scholarship.

I created this thread to connect with Nairalanders, who are either studying abroad or have completed their programme there; so that prospective foreign students like us can learn from their experiences.

But sadly, other than few kind Nairalanders, like HungerBAD and the other commenters above, most of the people I tagged in the opening posts have not yet made any contribution.

Maybe I didn't tag the appropriate class of Nlers or some of them are too busy. Hopefully, more experienced members of this forum will assist with answering questions we may have.

I am sorry I can't really give much advice; I only have concrete information on the scholarships in the Saudi Arabian schools I mentioned in one of my posts above and am working towards seating for and passing the required exams.

I will post scholarship information that is related to your course if I see any.

You may also go through and follow the Nairaland threads of students living/studying abroad I shared above, and post your questions on the discussion page of the country you intend to study in.

Being a regular on the GRE and TOEFL threads may also help.

You may also ask dafemlions on the thread, https://www.nairaland.com/1799712/studying-us-canada-faqs

Forget it! This doesn't apply to Nigerian applicants. How else will US schools assess your ability, if not with your GPA or test scores? Is it through the non-existent research experience we have here?

If you're really passionate about studying abroad (esp US), collect your transcripts ASAP, sit your butt down and prepare very well for the GRE, score as high as you can, find 2-3 people (lecturers or employers) who can recommend your work ethic, and reach out to people who can help you write a stellar Statement of Purpose.

Select good schools that fit your profile, apply and commit your journey into God's hands.

All the best!
