In as much as I feel sorry for her, everyone in Nigeria by now should be aware that the inefficiencies of our fire fighters are the direct result of the inefficiencies and corruption of our leaders. The fire fighters are just pawns in the big scheme of things.

The fire fighter are not responsible for allocating funds to the service
Fire fighters are not responsible for disbursement of funds neither are they directly responsible for ensuring a smooth operation. There are a lot of factors that are out of their power and to be honest fire fighter have little or no control over administrative issues that gets in the way of the job.

To the lady I am deeply sorry that you lost your property to fire, a situation that could have been avoided if the fire fighters had shown up on time. The lady should have this in mind in next local government, governor, house rep elections and ensure she votes someone that at least understand the plights of the people not someone that hands out rice and recharge cards. In the long run the guy that hands out rice and recharge card would have to recoup his money. One of the places he can get back some of his funds is by diverting funds allocated to fire service to his private purse and those of his sponsors.

Nigeria let's learn from the man-made-miseries of our everyday lives and put that to use during election cycles, that seems to be the only way we can get our politicians to take us seriously and do their jobs effectively.

even the oba palace got burnt, the one that surprised me though is the electricity angle, I think when a fire begins, first thing to do is to go to the power switch box and change over from electric supply that is if the fire has not gotten to the area of the switch box yet cos waiting for both fire service and for nepa abi na phcn to take their light is asking for too much in an under-developed country like Nigeria.
