Two men in Abia State have lost their status as members of Volkswagen Owners Club after they were unmasked by the police.

According to the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Abia, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, officers have recovered a Volkswagen Vento and Passat Volkswagen Wagon snatched in February and May at Arochukwu and Obehie areas of the state.

Oyebade told Newsmakersng how the cars were lost and found.

He said, “On May 2, 2017 at about 2:30pm, a cab driver identified as Johnson reported at Obehie Police Station that his vehicle, Volkswagen Vento car with registration number FST 411 CN used in conveying 35 kegs of Palm Oil from Akwa-Ibom to Port-Harcourt was snatched from him by four men armed with clubs and iron-rods at Oke-Ikpe town in Obehie.

“Consequent upon the report, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and Patrol teams attached to Obehie and Akwette Divisions were placed on alert and intensive search for the vehicle and its contents commenced immediately. Then, at about 6:30pm of same date, the SARS team attached to Obehie area traced the vehicle to the house of one Ambrose at Mkporobe village in Ukwa East LGA, in Abia State.

“The vehicle with 29 kegs of Palm Oil, some house breaking equipment such as two hammers and cutters, and two black caps purportedly used to cover faces, were recovered in his house. Efforts are in progress toward tracking down the said Ambrose and his gang members.”

On how the Volkswagen Passat was recovered, Oyebade said, “On May 7, 2017 at about 1030hrs, SARS operatives attached to Obehie, acting upon a tip off, arrested one 28-year-old Iheariorochi Enyinna of Ogwe Asa, but resident in Umuebulungwu village Ukwa-East. They recovered from him one Passat Volkswagen Wagon with fake registration number AGL 687 AQ and parts of Beretta Pistol suspected to have been used in snatching the car.

“The suspect has confessed that he snatched the vehicle, with original registration number as KRD 289 AW, sometime in February 2017 at Arochukwu in Abia State. He has given a lead towards the arrest of his accomplices.”
