Kano state House of Assembly constituted a panel to investigate alleged corruption in the emirate - The panel will report in two weeks - Emir Sanusi was criticised for asking his daughter to represent him at an event The Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi, is under investigation as the Kano state House of Assembly constituted an eight man committee to probe the alleged misappropriation of fund by the emirate. The Punch reports that Alhaji Ibrahim Gama who is representing Nasarawa local government raised a motion of urgent public importance. Gama expressed disappointment at statement credited to the emir that the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led administration wasted a month in China over the light rail project. He said: “The statement from the emir is capable of not only tarnishing his image, but that of the state government and the Assembly. “During his speech in Kaduna, the monarch alleged that the Kano State governor and his entourage, including me as the Chairman of the House Committee on Works, wasted one month in China, seeking loan to construct a rail project. “The emir’s statement was false. We spent only four days in China and our visit was to find out the capability of the company to handle the rail project. “His allegation has caused a lot of insult to me, the state government, as well as the House of Assembly by the general public – in and outside the state.” He also criticised the emir’s decision to send his daughter to represent him at the #BringBackOurGirls programme saying it had not happened in the tradition of the emirate before. “There are many responsible emirate council members who can represent him at the programme. This is the first time we are seeing such in the historical traditional home.” Gama also criticised the dressing of the emir’s daughter insisting it was an embarrassment to Kano people while also accusing Sanusi of introducing religious issues contrary to Islam. The Speaker, Alhaji Kabiru Rurum, constituted a committee to investigate the allegations within two weeks and report back to the Assembly and it was headed by the member representing Warawa Local Government, Alhaji Labaran Abdul. Meanwhile, the Arewa Consultative Forum met in Kaduna over the rising tension between the emir and Governor Ganduje. In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, it said the tension can affect the unity of the region. “The attention of the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum has been drawn to the simmering crisis between the Kano State and the Kano Emirate Council. “However, the ACF is aware of the peace initiative brokered by the Northern States’ Governors Forum in Kaduna and hope that the decisions taken would continue to be respected in the interest of peace and stability of the North and Nigeria in general. “ACF urges all outside interest groups to desist from fanning the embers of discord.” Source: https://www.naij.com/1104060-emir-sanusi-probe-alleged-corruption.html
