Sebastine1994: Yes, see section 36(6)(c) of the constitution. It's just that it's advisable to get a lawyer especially if charged with serious offences. Any other question? 2 Likes |

TheVictorious:Yes you can still defend yourself but in this case as the accused and not a lawyer as you will not be in your robe or dressed as a lawyer. The only advantage you have is that you possess legal knowledge. That's why most lawyers and even judges get another lawyer to defend them so they get all benefits of having a lawyer. For eg Ricky Tarfa is a senior advocate yet he hired about 90 lawyers when EFCC charged him. Any other question? 2 Likes |

Partnerbiz: But is there any possibility of someone representing himself to win the case when charged for any crime? |
Re: Can I Represent My Self In A Court Of Law by Partnerbiz(f): 7:24pm On May 11, 2017 |
Livebygrace:Yea, it all depends on the evidence available and a several other factors. Even when represented by 50 lawyers it still depends on several other factors. For example, take this Mercy Aigbe's case as an example, if yhe police are to prosecute him, it will be very easy to get him convicted because there is overwhelming evidence linking him to assault. Mercy Aigbe even went to a hospital and had a CT scan showing bruises and broken skull. Again, the friend who was also beaten up could testify too. All these can easily lead to his conviction. |

Partnerbiz: Thanks but I am thinking the judge would not take such person serious. He might think the person is overlooking the place of lawyers. 1 Like 1 Share |

Livebygrace: No, they have been trained to be objective. They will listen to your argument and evidence presented. The laws allows it, they don't have a choice than to listen to you. |
