South Korea has become a popular and powerful Asian country after its split from North Korea in 1948. South Korea achieved its many successes by investing in the fields of technology, education and tourism, to name but a few of its strengths.By embracing both tradition and modernity, this beautiful Asian super house has several opportunities to offer international students.

South Korea greatly values education and research and is investing heavily in these fields. Little wonder that South Korea has grown to become the world’s 13th largest economy and the third largest economy within Asia. It’s this investment and growth in innovation and technology that has meant the country is known as one of the four ‘Asian Tiger’ economies, alongside Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan.

Application Requirements

The admission requirements to study in South Korea differ from school to school but generally international students would be required to apply directly to their chosen university via post or online method. It is advantageous to have either limited or full proficiency in the Korean language . The good news is 25% of courses at Korean universities are taught in English. This, along with the fact that English proficiency is growing nationwide, helps to break down the language barrier for international students. However, a desire to learn the basics of the Korean language will certainly be helpful, paving the way for fuller integration into Korean society and culture. In either case, foreign students must prove their proficiency in the language their course will be conducted in.

Deadline

The South Korean academic year typically begins in March, but many universities admit new students twice a year – in March and September. Deadlines for March applications are set between September and November, while for September entry, deadlines are often between May to June. Most universities in South Korea have just two semesers, with a summer break from July to August and a winter break from December to February.
