President Yar’Adua is alive and still receiving treatment in the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

President Umaru Yar'Adua told the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, in a telephone interview, his first since he was admitted in to the hospital in November said he is recovering.

President Yar’Adua said he hope to make a “tremendous progress" and return home to resume his duties. There were newspapers and online reports that the Nigerian president died days ago.

There have been speculations that the ailing president has passed on. His long absence and speculation over his health has led to calls for him to hand over power to his vice-president.

Doctors said in December that President Yar'Adua was suffering from acute pericarditis, an inflammation of the lining of the heart.

He is also known to have kidney problems.

The Country had been awash with the news of the president's death following a report to that effect published on the online edition of one American Chronicle, with concerned Nigerians making enquiries as to its veracity.

Many local newspapers have published different stories about the state of the President's health.
Also a local newspaper had last Sunday reported that the President who left the country on November 23 to seek treatment in Saudi Arabia for an ailment medically called acute pericarditis was brain-damaged and not recognizing anyone, including his wife, Turai.

Even as the news about President Yar'Adua's death was all over the country since yesterday, the Presidential villa has been calm with no one, including the Vice President, his key aides as well as some ministers betraying any form of anxiety.

A further investigation into the matter has shown that only American Chronicle had this news article and the story in question has been pulled out from the site.

President Yar'Adua's silence until now and the fact he did not appoint Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan to serve in his absence has led to fears of a constitutional crisis.
The senate will on Tuesday January 12th take a decision on the continuous absence of the

"Charity begins at home". He should speak to Nigerian Media and journalist who would recognize his voice!

not to sound shade but we have a lot of problems to be solved for Nigeria to be waiting for a sick president, can he hand over power already?
