THE ORIGIN OF SIN
Text: Genesis 2:16, 17; Genesis 3:1-6
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned: “ But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if though the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many (Romans 5:12,15).
Disobedience brought sin to all men through Adam when he flouted the commandment of God, that he should not eat of the tree of good and evil. (Gen. 2:16, 17), he disobeyed and became a sinner and when anybody in our days follows suit such also becomes a sinner. Eve was lured, deceived and tempted by the serpent which actually was possessed by Satan to eat the forbidden fruit and when her husband Adam came, she gave it to him, and he too are (Gen. 3:1-6). Though they were tempted but they have the will to accept or reject but they voluntarily followed the deception of Satan. Likewise today, everybody is tempted all alike but you have the right to obey what God has said or you follow your own self will and Satan’s.
When Adam ate that forvidden fruit, something very serious and terrible that changed the nature of man, the course of life and the plan of God for mankind took place. Adam received a new nature, the corrupt nature and the nature of sin. Let us see how it happened in Gen. 5:1,3, “this is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and he called his name Seth.” When the bible says in the likeness of God made he him, what does that mean? It is not limited to – I have two hands, God has two hands or I have one head, God has one head, but it is talking about God’s essence, His inherent nature and image of God ( Gen. 1:26, 27). And what is the likeness, image or nature of God? It is absolute holiness! That was the nature Adam had before his disobedience, he was totally innocent of sin. But when he at the fruit, he died, what kind of death? Spiritual death! Because he still lived for several centuries after that incident physically. What does this kind of death signify? Separation from God, he lost the nature of God, the Spirit of God left him and another nature and personality took over his life and that is Satan’s . So he can naturally commit sin because Mr. Sin(Satan) dwells in him and that is the nature he transferred to all his children from one generation to another till date. That is why you don’t teach a little kid how to commit sin- get angry, lie, curse… before he starts. Why? It is inborn (Ps. 51:5).
Why is it that man cannot stop sinning with all the religious cover-up? Let the bible answer ! “For to be carnally minded ( to have Adam’s nature) is death; but to be spiritually minded ( Christ’s nature) is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; For it is not subject to the law of God ( he does not have the capacity to obey God no matter how hard he tries), neither indeed can be . So then they that are in the flesh( in Adamic nature) cannot please God( Romans 8:5-.
So then, what is the way out of sin? The only way is to get back that God’s nature we originally lost in Adam. “For as by one man’s (Adam) disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one (Jesus) shall many be made righteous” (Rom. 5:19). Jesus is the righteousness of God (Phil. 3:9) and when you accept Him, the righteousness of God and His nature comes back into you. And on that basis only will any mortal man obtain salvation and freedom from sin
