- Oba Rilwan Akiolu II revealed the Dos and Don'ts f the Eyo festival in Lagos

- The Lagos monarch warned that women must not use headscarves around the masquerades

- He said the festival would boost tourism in Lagos

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu II has issued a warning to Lagosians not to put on shoes and women not to wear head scarf during the Eyo festival in the state.

PM News reports that the state is set to hold the traditional and cultural festival on Saturday, May 20 as part of the Lagos at 50 celebrations.

The king spoke at a press conference at Ilupesi Square on Lagos Island where he was represented by the Olumegbon of Lagos, Chief Fatai Lawal.

The monarch outlined the dos and don’ts of the festival warning that Lagosians should not wear shoes while women must not use headscarf around the vicinity of the masquerades.


He said the Eyo Festival was being held “as part of the Lagos@50 celebrations to honour illustrious sons of Lagos including His Royal Highness, the Late Elegushi of Ikate, Oba Yekinni Elegushi (Kusenla II) and the deceased Co-Chairman, Lagos@50 Committee, Mr. Rasheed Gbadamosi.”


He said the procession would take off at the Iga Iduganran to culminate at the Tafawa Balewa Square where the various Eyo groups would be on parade and promised adequate security.

The monarch said plenty people are expected from around the world and assured that it would boost tourism.
