SPORT Dani Alves Wins 32nd Major Trophy by iyamchee(m): 9:20pm On May 18, 2017 |
Juventus winning the Coppa Italia means the former Barcelona right-back is now the world's third most decorated footballer. Dani Alves just won the 32nd major club honour of his stellar career. THIRTY TWO. Think about that for minute. After he scored in Juventus' 2-0 win against Lazio in the Coppa Italia final, the Brazilian right-back now has lifted THIRTY TWO different, decent, proper, top level trophies. It's a remarkable achievement, the scale of which only becomes apparent when you compare Alves' personal trophy cabinet to that of every other footballer on Earth. The Coppa Italia is Alves' first title with Juve, whom he joined last summer… but as his 32nd, it has added significance. When you consider only trophies won with club sides (i.e. not individual awards or international honours), this latest triumph draws Alves level with Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the third most decorated footballer in the world. With Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona, Milan, PSG and Manchester United, Zlatan has won 32 trophies - the same number Alves has won in his time with Bahia, Sevilla, Barcelona and now Juve. Both will have the chance to add to their tallies in the coming days (Zlatan could yet claim his first Europa League medal, while Alves is set to add his first Serie A title and a possible fourth Champions League). Interestingly, even if that all happens, neither of them will catch the men in first and second on the list of 'Footballers With The Biggest Personal Trophy Cabinets'. Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is currently second, with 35 major honours - which is not terribly surprising. But the guy at the top of the list? That may be a bit of a shock. It's not Lionel Messi (currently on 29), Andres Iniesta (30) or any of the other names you're currently thinking about. It is, oddly, Brazilian left-back Maxwell. In a career with Cruzeiro, Ajax, Inter,Barcelona and PSG, Maxwell - who only won 10 caps for Brazil - has lifted an astonishing 36 major trophies. Which just goes to show; if you play for the right teams, you can win…well, everything.
