CRISIS IN EKPON KINGDOM


Crown Prince Declared Wanted By Kingmakers.


The Ekpon kingdom in igueben Local Government Area,in Edo State,have been thrown into confusion and killings resulting from succession tussle to the throne vacated by His Royal Highness, Umorka Alfred, the King of Ekpon Kingdom in Igueben L.G.A of Edo state.

The noble king who died on the 29th of August 2015,after brief illness,was to be originally succeeded by the crown prince Umorka David Wale, who is the heir apparent to the throne.

Confusion erupted when some section of the kingdom and kingmakers affirmed that Prince Umorka David Wale's mother was not from their kingdom. They stated that his mother was from a neighbouring village called Igbodo,in Delta State. "There is no way we will have a king with mixed blood of a mother from another land. All our previous kings parent , hailed from our kingdom, so installing Prince Umorka David Wale as our king, is against our tradition and the security interest of our kingdom ",Stated chief Oluwole Odije, one of the kingmakers from the kingdom. Speaking in the same view, Chief Olorogun Atiota, stated that Prince Umorka David Wale's heart is with his mother's community. "What has he done for our kingdom since he was a prince ? His mind is with his people, I meant his mother's village and so he should go there and be their king" he said.


Also speaking with the Neworder, Barrister Tunde Harris Isah, an igueben born lawyer stated that the kingmakers has a hidden agenda.
It is very unfortunate that we have continued to loss lives and properties because of the injustice that the kingmakers are out to impose in our land.

Look at how many houses has been burnt ,over twenty people has lost their lives since the crisis erupted in January 2016, which was to be the day of Prince Umorka wale David's coronation".

Speaking further ,the erudite and vocal lawyer, revealed that there was plans to eliminate Prince Umorka David wale,`because they know he is a kind hearted man,who prefers Justice in all circumstance,they are bent on depriving him of his throne because they are not on the path of justice and this why the youth are on rampage because they don't want a stooge made the king of our great kingdom. As I am speaking to you now, no one knows if Prince Wale is alive or dead" he told the Neworder news.

It will be recalled that the youth of igueben kingdom and the supporters of their kingmakers have been on collision path,with over thirteen houses burnt and over twenty lives lost and the kingmakers who are divided over Prince Umorka David Wale's coronation, decided to leave the kingdom without a king.

Investigation revealed that most of the kingmakers against Prince Wale's coronation are on self imposed exile from the fear of their lives from the rampaging youths and the whereabout of Prince Umorka David Wale , remains unknown
