Watching Television has largely become an escape mechanism from reality. Many have seen it as an escape from their personal frustration. Millions have become slaves to television instead of truly enjoying it. It is a great source of enjoyment to those who use it wisely, but when it is a day long escape from reality, it really builds up tensions and cancel out its true purpose which is to entertain and inspire.
Thinking people realize it has an hypnotic appeal and instead of uniting friends and families, it has separated them. People will tell you that each member of their family has a favorite program, and woe betide any other member of the family who even speaks to that one who is watching his or her favorite program. How can such a failure have fun doing the little intimate things together that make a family.
We hear so often today that people do not visit each other anymore. I man quite sure that one reason for this is that when friends go to a visit and the television is going full blast , they do not want to stay and scream to make themselves heard over the noise and racket of the television.

This wonderful instrument that could be such a joy has become a pest in many circumstances. It has become one of the major causes of creating moronic young people instead of bright, intelligent children.

People who do not think for themselves demand the type of program which take them into the world of make believe to offset the frustration of purposeless lives. To a large extent, the industry give the public the type of entertainment it demands. After all, it is in business to make money, and if the type of show the public demands is what makes money, it will produce that type of show. So, the fault, therefore lies not so much with those who produce the programs but with those who demand them.

Instead of programs that add no moral , educative and cultural value to the viewers, we should have more programs that will educate , inspire and construct our thinking pattern. Constructive, creative programs would aid in uniting families stimulating friendships, solving social vices, infusing good and moral behaviors in teenagers and certainly in creating new businesses.

This doesn't on any way belittle the fact that Television is not a great contribution to humanity. Its value is inestimable. There are plenty of fine programs for intelligent viewers and listeners. The above comments are directed to those who have not found the positive use of Television

Television is entertainment. Not many people have the patience required to consume books. At that there are stupid books as well as dumb TV programs. One medium is not better than the other. Smart people can utilize both to full potential.

Escapism is the most crucial aspect of watching television. When NEPA does their worst and I still have battery life in my laptop, a good series engrosses my mind till electricity comes.
