Kodi Add-on Service Navi-x Shuts Down Over Legal Fears by Aldebaran(m): 1:43pm On May 20, 2017
Kodi add-on service Navi-X shuts down over legal fears as streaming crackdown continues

What is a 'Kodi box'?

Kodi is a piece of software that pulls lots of different entertainment channels together, like Netflix and iPlayer.

This allows you to watch online services on your TV. It can be installed on TV boxes which you connect to your telly using an HDMI cable.

The box, and the software are not illegal.
But it has a library which allows you to browse pirated TV, films and sports, which have been illegally obtained.

It’s using this library which puts you at risk.
Anyone selling a box with the intention for it to be used in this way will be seen as infringing copyright.

A MAJOR Kodi add-on will stop working because it’s afraid a brush with the law is on the cards.

Navi-X allowed viewers to import movies, TV shows and live sports from illegal sources onto their Kodi video player.

Without Navi-X it’s a little trickier for people to stream films using Kodi.

It was widely regarded as one of the “best” media libraries and has been around for ten years.

But the team behind it recently warned that it had become too risky to continue offering the service.

In a farewell message posted online, the developers wrote: “Every good thing must come to an end.

“After ten years of successful operation, Navi-X has sadly been discontinued. Navi-X was first released in April 2007, and is the oldest Kodi add-on of its kind.

“There are a few reasons why we made the decision to close Navi-X, and hope that the hundreds of thousands of people who still used Navi-X daily will understand why it was best to discontinue Navi-X while it was still on top.

“The main reason why the decision was made to discontinue the Navi-X service is the current legal climate surrounding Kodi.”

The abundance of pre-loaded or “fully loaded” Kodi box sellers has put Kodi in the spotlight in the UK.

As UK officials try to tackle copyright infringement, people who buy the illegal IPTV boxes ‘may be under investigation‘, the Sun recently revealed.

The chief executive of FACT, the federation against copyright theft, issued the warning, saying “some poor, unfortunate person may be the first that is made an example of”.

Sellers could face up to ten years in jail for peddling the technology.

eBay and Amazon admitted they were wiping “fully loaded” Kodi boxes from their website.

But the makers of Kodi say they will never stop Brits from accessing films using telly boxes.
