A Day For The Calculators In The Premier League. by uneeking(m): 1:51pm On May 21, 2017
As the Premier League Season draws to a close today, it kind of reminds one of Nigerian Soccer. Especially at the National Team level. Nigerians are used to situations where it is a sin to go to the stadium or Viewing Centres on the last day of qualification matches involving the Super Eagles.

It is normal on such days to have a situation like what Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City fans have today. In Nigeria, it is usually something like this; If we beat Niger by two goals to one and Ghana loses to South Africa by even a lone goal, we will qualify on goals difference as long as Cameroun does not score more than four goals against Togo.

That is the kind of situation in the Premier League today as Manchester City play away to Watford needing just a draw to keep the third position as long as Liverpool does not score with more than two goals difference against Middlesbrough while Arsene Wenger is fasting and praying that both ManCity and Liverpool lose their matches and his own team manages to score at least five goals against Everton.

Well, that is life for you. These people need to be asked “What have you been doing all season long that you are now fasting and praying for results to go your way on the very last day of the season?”

As for Arsene Wenger, he just can’t accept the fact that after such a long time in the Premier League of always making top four, his team will likely not be able to achieve that this time around.

He keeps reminding everyone of Manchester City’s dramatic title win in 2011-12 when Sergio Aguero scored the crucial goal in injury time and insisting that anything is possible.

“We can do 75 points, so let’s do it,” said the Gunners manager. “Will it be enough or not? I don’t know. If you had to bet, you would say: ‘No, it will not be enough’. But you never know.

“Man City won the championship in the last minute against QPR, so it can happen.

“It’s unpredictable. Liverpool will certainly be up for it; Middlesbrough will be up for it. Is Liverpool favourite? Yes. But we played 0-0 at home against Middlesbrough. It was not easy.”

Honestly, one feels some level of pity at this stage for Arsene Wenger because the guy is simply working under loads of pressure from the fans right now. But then if only pity can win matches.

We at the Uneekomunikations wish all the teams goodluck as they file out to trade tackles in about an hour’s time.
