So there was this day I was headed to Lagos from Ilorin, Kwara State. I remembered there was this express road - Ilorin-Ogbomosho expressway. So me and my partner-in-crime, my twin brother decided to do something crazy about 1 year ago. My car which is a 2007 Mercedes Benz C280 4MATIC was just 9 months with me and delivers impressive performance, so we decided to give her the push of her life and see how she would fair.

We clocked to between 180-190km/h the first time, then we changed and I took the wheels. Lo and behold, this car surprised me with an impressive 209km/h and could have gone more if I had pushed further but then the sweet part of the road was finishing. The interesting thing was that this car was so damn stable and we could only feel little vibrations at over 200km/h.

We learnt quite a few things about car handling at the high speed. It was a costly fun though but it was fun. The car would normally consume about 15 litres of fuel from Lagos to Ibadan which is about 140-150km distance with A/c on and about 100km/h average speed. But on this day, we burnt that same amount of fuel just covering about 50km distance.

At the end of the whole frenzy, after another 1hr drive past oyo, we discovered the car started vibrating at speeds above 80km/h and kept flashing the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) caution. In summary, we got to the car checked the next day in Lagos and discovered the only tokunbo tyre I had on had failed and twisted, that was the reason for the vibration.

Team Toks any day!!

What is a toks tyre? It is a used tyre that was removed from a Foreign used vehicle. (In better shape than one removed from a nigerian used vehicle tongue)

1. DO not buy a winter branded Toks tyre

2. Ensure age of toks tyre is less than 4years

3. Do not over gauge tyre (35psi max!)

4. Do not drive at speeds Exceeding 200KM/HR tongue

5. Buy Trusted brands like michelin and dunlop

Toks tyres will not fail if you Follow these guidelines.

i have used toks tyre for long and i have flogged cars not exceeding 160km/h. Tyres have their rating so ensure you learn about it before you decide to do dangerous stunts, some tyres have psi at 50 others 60 and speed rating clearly imprinted on the tyre also make sure you are running same tyre size on all 4s.

The myth about tokunbo tyres is actually misleading, if you buy a good second hand used tyre you go enjoy am.

look for trusted names like continental, yokohama, dunlop etc

In fact i am planning to change my EOD steel rims to alloy soon. I like the stock EOD rims which is 16 but my stock is 15rim. To do that, all my tires need to change incluging the 2 brand new star fire i bought recently.

I am going for toks Michelin, Continental, Goodyear or Dunlop. I have asked a dealer to get me the best he can find which are not older than 2014. They are cheap and a little more reliable as far as am concerned. Note, this will be my first time buying toks tires.

I completely exhausted new chinese tires in 1 year. My friend lost 4 brand new tires between last year and this year. I was driving on one ocassion. The recent one was less month old Boto 225/50R17. He has sworn never to buy new tires again after the multiple loss. Every set of 2 new tired he buys, 1 gets destroyed within a month.

See below the last one that got damaged at the sidewall

Thanks for posting! Toks tyres ... even the best brand... does not mean the tyre is good. We need to check the points posted or the tyre can fail. Michelin unused tyre. ... with manufacturer's sticker.... but how old is the tyre?...can be 15 years old... and would soon fail.... then what?...Michelin doesn't make good tyres?...I know what I'm saying? Do follow GAZZUZZ 's guide and also DaimlerBen's.

1 the major source of toks is COUNCIL POUNDS.
2 ELVs (End of life Vehicles
3 scrap yards
Those thieves in 9ja selling dead tyres as toks usually sell used 9ja tyres not imported used ones.
But there is a way you can check, all tyres have markers,so its this thread depth that determines if its legal or not.,
